| FedEx leases part of former ATA hangar Shipping giant FedEx has snapped up 126,000 square feet of the former ATA maintenance hangar at Indianapolis International Airport. About 80,000 square feet of the leased space is hangar bays, and the rest is office, training rooms and other uses, said FedEx spokeswoman Paula Bosler. FedEx will use the ATA space to maintain all but its largest airplane, the MC-11. Jobs will not be created immediately, but might in the long term, she said.
Hoosiers moving to the country, study finds Indiana's population is migrating to rural areas, a new study shows. The population of unincorporated areas grew 7 percent between 2000 and 2006, said the study, which was conducted by the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University. Incorporated areas increased 2.1 percent. The trend was strong in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks and Johnson counties. Rising incomes and cheaper transportation might be driving the trend.

| | AIT Laboratories adding 50 workers An ongoing expansion of AIT Laboratories will create 50 jobs this year in addition to the 60 created last year, the Indianapolis forensics lab said today. By the end of next year, total headcount will hit about 214, said the company, which has expanded its operation at 2265 Executive Drive near Indianapolis International Airport. The company conducts pharmaceutical, forensic, clinical and pain-management testing.
Johnson officials hope for office park Cheryl Morphew, executive director of Johnson County Development Corp., and Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson are discussing starting an office park southeast of the city. The officials are learning from getting passed over for a Medco Health Solutions Inc. pharmacy distribution center late last year, according to the Daily Journal of Franklin. The New Jersey company chose Boone County rather than Johnson County, partly because Boone had a site near housing and retail. Medco also knew who its neighbors would be in Boone County.
Rising costs hurt FinishMaster profit Fourth-quarter profit fell nearly 70 percent for FinishMaster Inc., the Indianapolis company that distributes auto paint and other products to body shops. The $2.4 million profit was down from $7.6 million a year earlier, partly because the year-ago period benefited from the settlement of a lawsuit, FinishMaster said Friday.
Perch farm opens near Muncie Bell Aquaculture near Muncie has begun operating a yellow perch farm that is projected to yield up to 100,000 pounds of fish per year. At full capacity, the facility in Albany could produce 9 million pounds annually and employ 70 people. Overfishing, loss of habitat and competition from invasive non-native species has reduced commercial catch to less than 20 percent of historic highs, the company said.

Marion County prepares for special election The special election to fill the 7th District congressional seat left open by the December death of Julia Carson is a day away. About 300 polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. Seeking the seat are Carson's grandson, Democrat Andre Carson; Republican Jon Elrod; and Libertarian Sean Shepard. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.

Gas prices continue to rise Drivers across the nation continue to feel pain at the pump. According to the newly released Lundberg Survey, the national average cost of a gallon of gas has risen 9 cents over the past two weeks. Most stations around Indianapolis are charging about $3.29 per gallon.
Hoosier to join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Indiana native John Mellencamp officially enters the ranks of rock legends today. The Seymour native will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony tonight at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Billy Joel will give the introduction speech for Mellencamp, who will perform as part of the event.
