| Finish Line shares soar on settlement news Investors rewarded locally based Finish Line Inc. today for wiggling out of its $1.5-billion acquisition of Genesco Inc., but punished shares of the Tennessee mall retailer. Finish Line traded at $3.75 late this morning, up 92 cents, or 33 percent, on the day. Genesco traded at $24.09, down $5.86, or 20 percent. The companies said they are on the verge of a settlement canceling the June agreement, which called for Finish Line to pay $54.50 per share in cash.
Thompson calls for 'broader' economic policy Jill Long Thompson said this morning that if she is elected governor, she will focus economic development policy on broad issues, including expanding tax incentives, reforming health care and education policy. Thompson, a former congresswoman and agriculture undersecretary who faces Indianapolis architect Jim Schellinger for the Democratic nomination, said incumbent Gov. Mitch Daniels has focused on "one business at a time" rather than on how broad policy issues affect business. Duke cool on daylight-saving time study Duke Energy Corp. is questioning a recent study from University of California-Santa Barbara economists that found Indiana's switch to daylight-saving time cost the power company's customers an extra $8.6 million in 2007. The Charlotte, N.C.-based company, which operates in the southern and central parts of Indiana, issued a statement late Friday urging Hoosiers to draw their own conclusions about the impact daylight-saving time has had on energy usage.The study suggested that heavier use of air conditioning last year outweighed savings in electricity directed to lights, long a staple in the argument for moving the clocks ahead.
Peerless pump buys Canadian distributor Indianapolis-based Peerless Pump Co. has acquired Flometrico Ltd., its main distributor in Canada, for an undisclosed price. Flometrico, which was sold by an owner who is retiring, is headquartered in suburban Toronto. Peerless said that the deal adds a base it will use to grow in Canada, and that key Flometrico employees have agreed to stay under its new ownership.
Village Pantry buys Ohio convenience stores Indianapolis-based Village Pantry Inc. has acquired nine convenience stores in central Ohio from Petro Acquisitions Inc. Village Pantry said the AmeriStop Market stores would be rebranded as Village Pantry. They were owned and operated by Petro, which is headquartered in the Cincinnati suburb of West Chester.
Pendleton inmates to work for Alabama firm Indiana inmates will repair transmissions used on postal vehicles under a contract the state has signed. Inmates at the Pendleton Correctional Facility will repair the transmissions under a contract with Alabama-based Ready-Built Transmission. Workers will earn from 75 cents an hour to $1.25 an hour.

Alcohol suspected in fatal crash Investigators believe alcohol and speed were to blame for an early morning car crash on South High School Road. Dustin Brooks, 21, missed a curve, hit a tree and was thrown from his car. A friend who was driving behind Brooks at the time of the accident was taken to jail after refusing to take a breath test. Fox 59 will have the latest at 10 p.m.

| Teenager recovering after shooting A teenager shot while riding an IndyGo bus on Saturday night is in fair condition. Kevin Gladney, 15, was hit in the chest by a bullet while riding the No. 39 bus near 10th and Meridian streets. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are searching for the shooter.
Tony Blair visits Indiana Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will speak at DePauw University in Greencastle tonight on "Challenges and Opportunities Facing 21st Century Citizens of the World." The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5; Blair with deliver his speech at 7:30.
Workers get special election training Training began yesterday for judges and clerks who will work the upcoming special election for the open 7th District congressional seat. All workers will receive training by March 11, the date of the election to replace Rep. Julia Carson, a Democrat who died in December.
