Finish Line execs fend off analysts
Finish Line Inc. executives this morning refused to comment on the company's legal tussle with Genesco Inc. during a conference call with analysts to discuss second-quarter results. CEO Alan H. Cohen got testy at one point when an analyst asked a question related to the Indianapolis company's $1.5 billion offer to buy Nashville, Tenn.-based Genesco. "We are in litigation," Cohen said, in response to another question about the merger. "That's not by our choice."   Full Story

ATA shifts pilots out of Indianapolis
ATA Airlines Inc. has closed its Indianapolis pilot base and moved its 94 pilots out of the city, the Indianapolis-based carrier said yesterday. The relocation was carried out in accordance with the pilots' collective bargaining agreement, said ATA spokeswoman Maya Wagle. The action is the latest in a series of moves the carrier has undertaken since it was bought out of bankruptcy for more than $90 million in 2005 by the New York investment firm Matlin Patterson.   Full Story

Simon to turn dying mall over to Ohio city
Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group and its partners in a dying downtown mall near the Ohio Statehouse have agreed to turn control over to the city, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said. In July, the city sued the shopping center's owners, with Coleman depicting them as absentee landlords that allowed the mall to lose its footing-and tenants. Since then, the loss of stores has continued, with Cincinnati-based Macy's Inc. announcing last week that it would close its City Center location in November, leaving the mall without an anchor store.   Full Story

OSHA: Indianapolis firm should pay fines
Calumet Lubricants should pay $122,400 for safety violations related to a March explosion and fire that injured a worker in Shreveport, La., the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says. The plant is part of Calumet Specialty Products Partners Co., headquartered in Indianapolis. The company has three refineries in northwest Louisiana and a terminal in Burnham, Ill.   Full Story

Rolls-Royce lands $700M engine contract
Rolls-Royce has received a $700 million contract from the Naval Air Systems Command to manufacture 370 engines for the tilt-rotor Osprey airplane used by the U.S. Marine Corps and Air Force. The five-year contract involves manufacturing 370 AE 1107C-Liberty engines for 148 planes and 74 spare engines. The Marines' MV-22 and Air Force's CV-22 can take off and land vertically, yet fly like an airplane. Combat deployment began this month.

Rose petals to adorn downtown bus shelters
Monday-morning IndyGo commuters will be in for a treat at 11 downtown bus shelters. Local artist Audrey Barcio and 10 assistants will use a water-soluble adhesive to glue 200,000 freeze-dried rose petals to the interiors of the shelters as a public art project. The petal pushers will be returning to the shelters to refresh and replace petals until the project closes Oct. 7. The $3,700 project is being funded by the Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission as part of the Public Art Indianapolis program.

South Bend bank sues Falcons quarterback Vick
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who pleaded guilty last month to federal dog fighting charges, has been sued by 1st Source Bank in South Bend over claims that his company hasn't repaid more than $2 million in loans. The loans to Divine Seven LLC, a Georgia company, were made to finance vehicles for a car rental firm in the Atlanta area, according to the South Bend Tribune.   Full Story

Lakes pact links business, environmentalists
Businesses and environmental groups in northwest Indiana have banded together to prohibit water diversions from the Great Lakes, reports the Post-Tribune of Merrillville. Each state would decide if industries and municipal facilities that already use water from the Great Lakes would be required to participate in a water conservation program and meet certain conservation goals or to participate voluntarily.   Full Story

Pigeon to follow Gillis out of WIBC
Jeff Pigeon, the long-time voice of WIBC-AM 1070's morning show, told listeners this morning that he is leaving the station. Pigeon's co-host, Terri Stacy, is planning an on-air party Monday morning for the Chicago native. Pigeon's exit comes just more than two months after the departure of long-time traffic reporter Big John Gillis.   Full Story

IPS bus accident sends students to hospital
An IPS bus carrying Broad Ripple High School students was in an accident this morning that sent eight people, including the bus driver, to the hospital. It happened around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Kessler Boulevard and Compton Street near Broad Ripple Park. The students complained of neck and back pain. Doctors said their injuries were minor. Fox 59 News will have more at 10 p.m.

Anonymous tip leads to arrest
Metro police arrested a man accused of taking part in a deadly attack at a west-side motel. Officers say James Whatley hit Bharat Patel on the head at the Relax Inn on South Tibbs Avenue last month. Police later issued a murder warrant for Whatley's arrest after Patel died. Officers say an anonymous tip led them to Whatley this morning.

Engine fire grounds Atlanta-bound flight
Delta Airlines officials are trying to determine what caused a plane engine to burst into flames yesterday at Indianapolis International Airport. Firefighters say the plane's left engine caught fire moments before takeoff. All 132 passengers and five crew members were safely evacuated.

Work begins on I-69 south exit ramp
Starting today, the southbound exit from Interstate 69 to Interstate 465 will be shifted to the left to allow construction of a two-lane exit ramp. This portion of the Majors Moves project is expected to cost $6 million.
