Nestle plans $32M bottled-water plant in Greenwood

Nestle plans $32M bottled-water plant
in Greenwood

Nestle Waters North America Inc. plans to build a $32 million water-bottling plant in Greenwood. The 294,388-square-foot plant, which will make the company's Pure Life waters, is expected to employ 64 workers making an average of $33,000 annually. The company will receive more than $1.1 million in local and state tax credits and incentives in return for the investment. The plant will be on Commerce Parkway West Drive. Nestle Waters is a unit of Nestle, the Swiss tea, coffee and chocolate company. Nestle is in the process of building a $359 million plant in Anderson that will make Coffeemate and Nesquik products and will employ nearly 300. The company this summer announced a $30 million expansion of its Fort Wayne Drumstick plant that will add 68 jobs.

Ex-WellPoint execs join Medical Animatics
Two former WellPoint Inc. executives have joined Indianapolis-based Medical Animatics LLC as chairwoman and vice chairwoman after becoming angel investors in May. Jane Niederberger, Medical Animatics' chairwoman, had been vice president and general manager of operations for WellPoint's central region. Barbara Kew, the company's vice chairwoman, had been vice president of information technology for WellPoint. Medical Animatics, founded in January 2005, produces high-end 3D animation videos used to explain medical procedures to patients.   Full Story

Muncie-to-Bloomington commuter rail to be studied
The Indiana Department of Transportation tentatively has chosen a San Francisco engineering design firm to conduct a feasibility study for developing a commuter rail system that would connect Muncie to Bloomington. Stops along with way would include Indianapolis, Fishers, Noblesville and Anderson. A report by CRS Corp. could be out in about a year.

Pilgrim, rival won't merge as planned
Middlebury-based Pilgrim International Inc., which was acquired by New York-based private equity firm Monomoy Capital Partners LP in July, will not be merged with Washington-based Western Recreational Vehicles Inc., which also is owned by Monomoy. The private equity firm had said it would merge the two recreational vehicle companies. No reason was given for changing the plan.

Investigators search for cause of high school fire
New Palestine High School is closed today because of an overnight fire. Investigators believe it started shortly after 11 p.m. in a classroom on the east side of the building. The school suffered heavy smoke damage. Officials say they are not sure when students will go back to class.

IPS dress code enforced
Today was the deadline for students to be in compliance with the new Indianapolis Public Schools dress code. IPS officials say about 90 percent of students in elementary and middle schools are in compliance, but the number was much lower at high schools. Students who fail to adhere to the dress code could face disciplinary action, including suspension and transfer to an alternative school. Bus drivers refused to give students a ride if they were not in compliance with the dress code.

Elizabeth Edwards raising money in Indianapolis
The wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is visiting Indianapolis today. Elizabeth Edwards will be attending a private fundraiser. Edwards also will visit relatives in the area.

NFL continues Indianapolis preparations
The 2007 NFL Kickoff Event is Thursday on Monument Circle. Officials expect to draw 100,000 people downtown for a pre-game concert at 5:00 p.m. featuring Faith Hill, Hinder and Kelly Clarkson. John Mellencamp will perform at the RCA Dome before the game, and a banner commemorating the Colts' Super Bowl win will be unveiled. The Colts take on the New Orleans Saints at 8:30 p.m.
