Today's Finish Line vote not last word Genesco Inc. shareholders this afternoon approved the company's $1.5 billion cash sale to locally based Finish Line Inc. But the deal is a long way from being done. Both Finish Line and its bankers have suggested they might attempt to extricate themselves from the deal by claiming that Nashville, Tenn.-based Genesco Inc. has undergone a "material adverse" change.
Smulyan Rebuffs Investor's Overture Emmis Communications Corp. CEO Jeff Smulyan is firing back at an Elkhart investor who held a video teleconference with directors last week to encourage them to sell the struggling company's properties piecemeal. The investor, Frank Martin of Martin Capital Management, said in a regulatory filing Sept. 14 that the company should seriously consider selling its radio stations and other holdings and "return capital to ... shareholders before [the company's] value may diminish further."
New Councilman Carson Hired by Cripe Andre Carson, who last month took over the City-County Council seat of Patrice Abdullah, has been hired by Cripe Architects + Engineers Inc. as a marketing specialist. Carson, 32, is a grandson of U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, D-Indianapolis. He most recently was an investigator for the Indiana State Excise Police.
Lilly Sales In China Outpace Overall Growth Sales of Eli Lilly and Co.'s drugs in China are increasing at an even faster clip than the rapidly growing nation's overall pharmaceutical market, Reuters reports. Lilly's sales are rising about 26 percent a year compared with 16 percent for the entire drug industry in China, the world's most populous country.
Martin University Holds Reception For Finalists Martin University will hold a series of receptions for the public to meet the four candidates who are finalists for the presidency of the school. Boniface Hardin, founding president, is stepping aside Dec. 31. The public meetings will be Oct. 1-4 on the Martin University campus.
Fort Wayne man sued over 'typo squatting' Microsoft has sued a Fort Wayne businessman and his companies, alleging trademark infringement through a practice known as "typo squatting"-or registering Internet domain names very similar to those belonging to the software company. Anthony Peppler of Fort Wayne was targeted in one of three lawsuits filed last week by Microsoft. All the suits allege trademark infringement by creating and registering Internet domain names "confusingly similar" to marks belonging to Microsoft.

Arrest Made After Deadly Stabbings Metro police yesterday arrested an Indianapolis man accused of killing his mother and her two foster sons. The triple homicide happened over the weekend in the 4500 block of North Shady Lane on the northeast side. Officers say Sean Wright stabbed Flossie Wright and her 16-year-old and 10-year-old foster sons. Police found the bodies after responding to a disturbance in the home involving Wright. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.
Man Jumps From Window to Escape Fire A Fishers man broke out a screen window and jumped out of the second floor of Deerbrook Apartments on the town's south side when it caught fire this morning. Firefighters say the fire started when a paper log in the man's fireplace caught a rug on fire. The man tried to make it to the front door, but the smoke was too thick so he jumped out the window. He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
City-County Council to Vote On Budget The Indianapolis City-County Council will vote tonight on next year's billion-dollar budget. Approximately $90 million in income taxes are earmarked to fight crime. The budget also includes $13 million in spending cuts to help ease property taxes.
Indiana Schools Prepare For ISTEP Today is the first day of ISTEP testing for some Indiana students in the third through 10th grades. ISTEP scores are used by federal and state officials to measure student progress.
