Dallas firm to create 500 jobs in Anderson
Dallas-based Affiliated Computer Services Inc. plans to open a data outsourcing operation in Anderson, creating 500 customer service jobs over the next two years, said Anderson economic development consultant Greg Winkler. Officials from ACS, along with Gov. Mitch Daniels and Anderson officials, are scheduled to make a formal announcement this afternoon.   Full Story

Lilly, Emisphere settle protracted dispute

Eli Lilly and Co. has agreed to pay $18 million to settle a bitter dispute it had with New York-based Emisphere Technologies Inc. Emisphere announced the settlement agreement this morning but gave no details. The agreement still needs approval from U.S. District Court Judge David Hamilton in Indianapolis. In January 2006, Hamilton ruled that Indianapolis-based Lilly breached its contract with Emisphere as the two worked to develop oral versions of Lilly's injectible osteoporosis drug Forteo.   Full Story

GM strike to challenge parts suppliers
The United Auto Workers' strike against General Motors Corp. presents more challenges for auto parts suppliers, which have struggled with bankruptcies and increased competition in recent years. The impact will largely depend on the length of the strike and the degree to which individual suppliers depend on GM for orders. It wasn't immediately clear how many Indiana workers are employed by parts plants supplying GM. GM itself has 5,565 workers at its four Indiana plants.   Full Story

Rolls-Royce lands research contract
The U.S. Air Force has awarded Rolls-Royce a contract valued at $19.6 million to develop high-temperature, high-pressure ratio compressor technologies for jet engines. The work, which will be conducted at the British company's research unit on the west side, will focus on engine architecture for planes used in intelligence, surveillance and other sub-sonic missions. The contract comes a month after Rolls-Royce received a $296 million Air Force contract to develop technology to allow engines to operate in both high thrust and loiter modes in order to burn less fuel.

Huntington signs Colts sponsorship deal
The Indianapolis Colts yesterday announced a sponsorship deal with Ohio-based Huntington Bank that includes sponsorship of the new Lucas Oil Stadium's west gate, which will be named and themed for the bank. Terms of the deal were not released, but sources close to the deal said it was a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal. In September, 2006, Colts officials told IBJ that the gate sponsorships would be sold for $1.4 million per year.   Full Story

Fineline Printing buys press, will create 25 jobs
Fineline Printing Group in Indianapolis has spent $2.5 million on a Heidelberg Speedmaster printing press, an investment that will require hiring 25 more workers in the next two years, Fineline said yesterday. The German-built offset press is the most productive in its class, said Fineline, which is on the northwestside. Family-owned Fineline counts Eli Lilly and Co., Rolls-Royce and Cummins Inc. among its customers.

Novae adding to manufacturing operation

Novae Corp., a manufacturer of utility trailers, commercial lawn care attachments and industrial material handling equipment, plans to build a 12,000-square-foot addition to its plant in the northeastern Indiana town of Markle. The company plans to create 100 jobs by 2010, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corp. Novae now employs 80.
Novae received commitments of as much as $370,000 in state and local economic development incentives.

Parker Hannifin cuts 100 jobs at New Haven
Parker Hannifin Corp. said yesterday it is eliminating 100 jobs at its air-conditioning supply plant in New Haven just outside of Fort Wayne. After the cuts, the plant will have 820 employees, 720 of them hourly workers. The cuts were blamed on reduced demand, the slow housing market and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers.   Full Story

Police seek suspect in New Palestine abduction
Hancock County sheriff's deputies believe Ron Thomas, 40, abducted his ex-wife in New Palestine this morning in the 2300 block of South Leonard Road. Neighbors say they saw the suspect force Allison Thomas, 35, into his car and speed away. Ron Thomas is believed to be armed. Fox 59 News will have more at 10 p.m.
Missing New Palestine girl found safe
Hancock County deputies, a neighborhood association and several other organizations searched for a missing 4-year-old girl for more than three hours this morning. Officers eventually found her asleep in her parent's bed, buried under blankets and pillows. According to police, both of the girl's parents are deaf, and the little girl has wandered off before.

Police: Woman tried to hire hitman
Police have arrested an Indianapolis woman on a preliminary charge of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband. Investigators say D'Antoinette Burns made a total payment of $3,000 to an undercover cop she thought was a hitman. They say she also supplied him with a gun, ammunition, pictures, and directions to her ex-husband's place of work.

Marion County signs reassessment contract
All commercial and industrial property in Marion County is expected to be reassessed by Feb. 1, now that the county has signed a $1.8 million contract with Manatron Inc. to complete the reassessments. The Assessor's Office also has hired four top-level assessors to begin a residential reassessment.
