Have a great week. Here's some help in making that happen. Bob Dylan, July 15 at the Lawn at White River State Park Most of the time, I like to be surprised by a concert's set list. How an artist mixes the old and the new, what period is emphasized, what the encores will be and how spontaneous the performance is all
But with Bob Dylan coming to town with more than 40 years of music in his repertoire, I couldn't help but give in to pre-show curiosity and check his set lists from other concerts on this tour. After all, any Dylan fan has periods of preference. Me, I'd be happy if he played all of "Blood on the Tracks" and "Infidels." Others might rather hear more of his hits or an emphasis on his most recent album, "Modern Times." Evidence from recent shows indicates that both of the latter should be well-satisfied. Dylan standards "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35," "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," "Blowin' in the Wind," and "Like a Rolling Stone" have found their way into the mix (although not all at every concert) as well as two or three cuts from the new disc. "Thunder on the Mountain" (the opener from "Modern Times") and the classic "All Along the Watchtower" are clearly the preferred encores just about everywhere. Sounds good to me. And at least now I know not to hold my breath for a live version of "Jokerman." Click here for more information.
With its booming funk and hip-hop music, army of interactive clowns, animal acts and boisterous ringmaster team, the Atlanta-based UniverSoul Circus has become a staple on tour and, each summer, at Indiana Black Expo's Summer Celebration. In a way, it's the perfect anchor for the week of activity, offering a great mix of talent, fun and forward-thinking. Don't come in expecting the distanced, ethereal Cirque du Soleil thing or the awe-you-and-then-its-over Ringling Bros. routine. This high-energy company of crowd pleasers isn't shy about clearly announcing its agenda—or sprinkling its positively astounding feats with positive social messages. Click here for more information.
