Marsh sells kitchen operation to Violi Foods Fishers-based Marsh Supermarkets Inc. has sold its Butterfield Foods LLC central kitchen to Violi Foods LLC for an undisclosed price. Butterfield President Frank Violi is president and CEO of Violi Foods, which was incorporated in May and operates from Butterfield's current location in Noblesville. Butterfield prepares salads and other deli foods sold in the grocers' delicatessens, and will continue in the same role under the new ownership. Local auto dealerships acquired by Texas firm Indianapolis-based Royce Motors Inc., which operates three buy-here/pay-here car lots in its hometown, has been acquired by subsidiaries of Dallas-based Manchester Inc. for $5.3 million. Lot employees and executives will be retained, Manchester said. A recorded message at Royce said its home office is closed and operations would be transferred to a new facility.
Simon authorizes buying back $1B of its stock Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. said today that its board has approved a buyback plan for up to $1 billion in common stock. The company said it may purchase the stock over the next two years on the open market or in negotiated transactions. Shares were up slightly on the news, to $87.87.
Cummins stock climbs after earnings report Shares of Cummins Inc. kept climbing today-up 1.6 percent-after a strong showing yesterday following its second-quarter earnings report. The stock is trading at $118 per share after having shot up to $116.15 yesterday from Wednesday's close of $109.81. The Columbus, Ind., diesel engine maker reported strong sales across its market segments and raised its earnings outlook.
Plainfield industrial building acquired by California firm A 321,627-square-foot industrial building in Plainfield Business Center at Airwest is one of nine buildings bought by California-based KBS Real Estate Investment Trust. The total portfolio sold for $124.5 million. The seller was Opus Corp., based in Minneapolis.
Foamex to move work to Fort Wayne Foamex International Inc. will close a 125-employee plant in Eddystone, Pa., early next year and shift the work to a Fort Wayne plant to increase operating efficiency. The Pennsylvania-based company emerged from 17 months of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February.
Seattle area still smarting over Lilly's Icos deal Emotions in the Seattle area are still raw months after Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. bought full ownership of Icos Corp. and promptly announced that it would wipe out most of Icos' 700 jobs. Lilly acquired the Bothel, Wash., maker of the Cialis erectile dysfunction drug for $2.3 billion in December. The massive job loss continues to be viewed as a severe blow to the region's struggle to grow a hometown giant to compete with such biotech hotspots as Boston and San Francisco, according to The Seattle Times.

Firefighters hurt battling apartment fire Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries this morning after flames engulfed the top of Core Riverbend Apartment Homes near 86th Street and Allisonville Road. Residents fled at least 23 units in two buildings. Crews say the top floor of one building suffered heavy fire damage and a partial roof collapse.
Northeast-side shootings injure 4 Two people were shot at Club Chapparel near 30th Street and North Sherman Avenue this morning. They were taken to Wishard Hospital in stable condition. Also this morning, a mother and her 11-year-old son were shot at Twin Hills Apartments complex in the 3500 block of Baltimore Avenue. They're recovering at Methodist Hospital. Police believe a suspect fired into the residence from a nearby hill. Avon Town Council holds off on massage law Avon leaders say they'll wait until next month to discuss a proposed law requiring permits for operators of massage businesses. That's after a group of angry massage therapists showed up at last night's Town Council meeting to protest. They say the new law is redundant because of the recently passed state law requiring massage therapists to have 500 hours of training and certification.
