PriorityListTitle

Neil Diamond
July 29
Conseco Fieldhouse
It was less than a week ago that Neil Diamond launched his latest tour in St. Paul, Minn. So this show should feel fresh when the multi-decade star brings his act to Indy on Tuesday. Yes, you'll hear some of his classics. But also expect a sampling from his latest disc, "Home Before Dark." To listen to a new Diamond tune - performed with Dixie Chick Natalie Maines - click here . To hear him with The Band on "Dry Your Eyes," (a personal favorite of mine), click here. For more information on the concert, click here.

Marc Cohn
July 27
Music Mill
With Neil Diamond coming to Conseco and, in rapid succession, Rush, Dave Matthews Band and Jimmy Buffett on the week's lineup at Verizon Wireless Music Center, you'd think there wouldn't be room for anyone not in the legend category. Wrong. Try Marc Cohn, the gifted songwriter of 1991's "Walking in Memphis" (still a WTTS favorite), which helped score him a Grammy as Best New Artist. With Cohn, you can focus on the non-music stuff - he sang at Caroline Kennedy's wedding, married ABC journalist Elizabeth Vargas and survived being shot in the head during a carjacking attempt in 2005 - or you can just listen to his soulful, solid music. For details on Cohn, click here. For more on the concert, click here.

"The Big Lebowski"
July 25
Indianapolis Museum of Art
To some, it's one of the best comedies of all time. To others, it's merely the best Coen Brothers film (yes, including "No Country for Old Men"). For still others, it's just an excuse to drink White Russians.

Whatever the case, expect a fun crowd at the Summer Nights screening of the film that made bowling hip again, provided Tara Reid with something respectable for her resume and offered not one but two unforgettable dream sequences. For details, click here.

"She Loves Me"
July 25-26, Aug. 1-2
Indiana University Opera
Perhaps the least known of great American musicals, "She Loves Me" will still seem familiar to anyone who has seen the Jimmy Stewart movie "The Shop Around the Corner" and Tom Hanks' "You've Got Mail." All share the same source material, a character-filled tale of lonely hearts, love and mixed-up messages. This one has the advantage of a charming score by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, who also penned "Fiddler on the Roof." It's part of IU's Summer Music Festival by Indiana University Opera. For details, click here.

"A Very Merry Unauthorized
Children's Scientology Pageant"

July 25-Aug. 16
Theatre on the Square
I haven't seen a production of this irreverent show, which tells the story of Scientology and its founder, L. Ron Hubbard. But I fell hard for the original cast recording - which features such catchy synth-pop tunes as "Hey, It's a Happy Day!" and "Mr. Auditor" - and I've been looking forward to seeing it since it landed on Theatre on the Square's schedule. As the title suggests, this is the Scientology equivalent of an elementary school holiday pageant, with straight-faced kids playing all the parts (including the roles of John Travolta and Tom Cruise) and costumes and sets that look like they were created by overworked schoolteachers with limited budgets. If done well, this could be a creepy, funny, enlightening, one-of-a-kind experience. For details, click here.
This week's contest
If you like your smooth jazz with a healthy helping of funk, then you probably already know that Brian Culbertson will be playing at the Madame Walker Theatre on Aug. 1. We're giving away a pair of tickets to the concert and all you have to do for a chance to win is enter here. We'll pull one name at random. (For more info on Culbertson, visit here . For more on the concert, click here.)

Just to make things interesting, in the response box, tell us something you think is funky. Your response won't help you win, but next week we'll offer a link to our favorite responses.

By the way, last week we offered a pair of tickets to the see Marc Cohn at the Music Mill. The winner? Joshua Lore. And the week before, we offered tickets to see Tommy Davison at the Music Mill. The winner? Kim Weseli.

Oh, and make sure to visit www.ibj.com/arts for previews, reviews, blogs and video.
