Finish Line, Genesco trial to start today
A trial this week may only be the first step in mall retailer Genesco Inc.'s attempts to salvage a $1.5 billion buyout by The Finish Line Inc. Indianapolis-based Finish Line and investment bank UBS AG want to back out of the highly leveraged deal, and Genesco has sued in a state court in its headquarters city of Nashville to stop them. The trial starts today. Even if Genesco prevails, it still faces another major legal obstacle in New York, where UBS has asked a federal judge to void its financing commitment.   Full Story

Stadium adds Gregg to sponsorship roster
While the Indianapolis Colts steamroll their way toward the playoffs, the team's sales staff is racking up its own successes. Today, Colts officials announced another multi-year, multi-million-dollar sponsorship deal for Lucas Oil Stadium, which is set to open next fall. Officials for locally based HHGregg Inc. announced at a press conference at the team's 56th Street training complex that they have signed on to sponsor Lucas Oil Stadium's south gate.   Full Story

Star syncs Intake name, Indy.com
The Indianapolis Star will change the name of its print publication aimed at a younger audience to Indy.com from INtake. The re-naming follows the recent launch of an entertainment and social networking Web site run by the Star, www.Indy.com. The Star has owned the domain name www.Indy.com since the late 1990s, but recently decided to make better use of it, Star officials said.   Full Story

Marc Promotions acquired by Evigna
The Indianapolis-based promotional products arm of Marc USA has been acquired for an undisclosed price by Evigna, a similar company headquartered in the Detroit suburb of Madison Heights. Marc Promotions, which has an office near Eagle Creek Park and another in Columbus, Ohio, has 20 employees. It will operate under the Evigna name. Most employees will remain.   Full Story

Bio-plastic facility to hire 200 in Seymour
Cereplast Inc., a Hawthorne, Calif., manufacturer of bio-based plastic resins, will locate a plant in the southern Indiana city of Seymour, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said today. The project will create as many as 200 jobs manufacturing and distributing resins made from plant starches rather than petroleum. Cereplast will invest more than $7 million into an existing, 100,000-square-foot industrial building. The 6-year-old company received nearly $1 million in state and local incentives.

Magazine: 11 Ivy Tech campuses growing fast
Several of Ivy Tech Community College's Indiana campuses rank among the nation's fastest-growing community colleges, a magazine says. Community College Week's special report places Ivy Tech's Indianapolis region ninth among schools with an enrollment of 10,000 students or more. Eleven of Ivy Tech regions or campuses are listed among the fastest-growing community colleges in the biweekly magazine's report, which system officials trumpeted Dec. 7 in a news release.   Full Story

Boomers to shoulder orthopedic growth
The baby boomer population is driving the growth of once-obscure shoulder replacement surgeries at a record pace, with orthopedic device makers jostling for market share by offering more and better technology. Doctors say patients today insist on playing golf and participating in normal daily activities well into their later years. To meet the rising demand, medical device companies-including several based in Warsaw-are in a race to expand their product portfolios. Hip and knee replacements still far outnumber shoulder replacements, but there is a much greater awareness of the shoulder surgery now.   Full Story

Pacers' Tinsley targeted after nightclub confrontation
Indiana Pacers' guard Jamaal Tinsley will meet with team leaders today to determine if any disciplinary action will result from his involvement in a shooting downtown early Sunday morning. Metro police continue looking for suspects they say opened fire on Tinsley and his companions. One person was hurt in the shooting near the Conrad Hotel. Tinsley was uninjured. Fox 59 will have the latest at 10 p.m.

Court, DCS, police seek to improve communication
A Marion County juvenile court judge will hold a meeting today that could lead to making child-protection information available to officers responding to domestic disputes. The move comes almost two weeks after the death of TaJanay Bailey. The 3-year-old was returned to her mother from foster car in October despite evidence of earlier abuse.

Police search for driver after crash
Indianapolis police are trying to figure out who was driving a van that crashed into the FuncoLand store near Post Road and East Washington Street early this morning. When police arrived, they found the van had crashed into the store's front window, and the driver was gone.

Westfield town council to review Lantern Commons proposal
The Westfield Town Council is expected to review plans for an $83 million shopping center today. Developer Pinetree Commercial LLC plans to build Lantern Commons at 161st Street and U.S. 31. It would open in the fall 2009.
