| Boberschmidt appointed Premier trustee Philip Boberschmidt of the downtown law firm of Boberschmidt and Powers has been appointed trustee to oversee liquidation of Premier Properties USA - a task that begins today. Boberschmidt, who specializes in bankruptcy liquidations, gains control of the files after U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Basil H. Lorch III on Friday reclassified the bankruptcy from Chapter 11 reorganization to Chapter 7 liquidation. The transition to Chapter 7 ended Premier founder Christopher P. White's hopes of resurrecting the Indianapolis development firm.
Sharper Image store to close The Sharper Image Corp. store at the Fashion Mall at Keystone at the Crossing will close. The bankrupt company announced Sunday that it will shutter all of its remaining stores. Eighty-six stores will be liquidated. The company liquidated 96 of its stores following its February bankruptcy, which was blamed on a slow economy and tight credit conditions, according to Reuters. The San Francisco-based company specialized in high-end novelty gadgets.

| | LaCrosse Footwear eyes Indiana for warehouse Oregon-based boot maker LaCrosse Footwear Inc. plans to consolidate two Wisconsin distribution centers into a new one it will build here, but a company representative says it hasn't picked a site. Spokeswoman Erin Patterson says it's also too early to say how many jobs may be created by the project, which LaCrosse hopes to finish in the first half of next year.
Hoosier Park opens slot-machine casino The Hoosier Park horse track in Anderson has opened the doors of its new slot-machine casino to the public. A long line of patrons began filing in as soon as officials cut the ribbon on the 93,000-square-foot casino this morning. Indiana Downs in Shelbyville hopes to open its 70,000-square-foot temporary casino next week and a larger permanent casino next year.
Cummins names president of power generation Last week's announced retirement of Cummins Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Loughery has resulted in another promotion within the Columbus diesel engine maker. Tony Satterthwaite has been named president of Cummins' Power Generation arm. Satterthwaite was vice president of the division, which makes electricity generating units. He replaces Tom Linebarger, who was promoted last week to replace Loughery.
Fortune closes on $32M line of credit Indianapolis-based Fortune Industries Inc. has closed on a $32 million line of credit with the company's majority shareholder, Carter Fortune. The credit line replaces one with Fifth Third Bank and is secured by most of the company's assets. John Fisbeck, the company's CEO, also will personally guarantee up to half of the credit line. The company operates in sectors such as wireless infrastructure, ultraviolet technologies, electronics integration and human resources management.
Cummins to furlough 125 diesel engine workers Sluggish demand for Dodge Ram pickup trucks has prompted Cummins Inc. to announce plans to lay off 125 workers at its diesel engine plant in Walesboro, just south of Columbus, from June 8 to mid-August. Rising fuel prices are hurting Ram sales.

Eastside residents pick up after tornado An estimated 10,000 people still are without power following weekend storms. About 100,000 had no electricity after a tornado and high winds whipped through the city. Ground Zero was Falcon Pointe Apartments, 3806 E. Marietta Dr. Police and fire escorts are accompanying residents as they are allowed to return to their homes today to retrieve personal items. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m. | | | | |
| Middle School serves as haven for tornado victims John Marshall Middle School, 10101 E. 38th St., served as a shelter for victims of the weekend's storms. A temporary roof was erected over the gymnasium after the storm ripped the roof off Friday. School officials say classes will continue but that the school also will provide resources to storm victims. The school is networking with local organizations, including the Salvation Army, Red Cross and local clergy, to help people with physical needs. Counselors are standing by to help individuals through the trauma.
Apartment building fire leaves six families homeless Six families are without homes after an early morning fire ripped through Wellington Apartments, at 7714 Little John Drive near interstates 70 and 465 on the east side. Firefighters evacuated the building, as flames burned through the roof. The fire was contained on the third floor, but units on the first and second floors suffered water damage. Finding vacant units for displaced residents may prove difficult, as rescue groups like the Red Cross are busy helping those displaced by weekend storms. There is no word on what sparked the fire, but officials say there were no serious injuries.
