| Finish Line shares soar after earnings report Stock in The Finish Line Inc. shot up 17 percent this morning after the Indianapolis-based athletic shoe and clothing retailer reported that it swung to a profit in its first fiscal quarter. Shares rose $1.16, to $8.15. Finish Line said business improved as it tightened inventories. A focus on higher-priced brands and sport-style products boosted margins.
Investigators sorting out deadly accident State investigators remain on the scene of the deadly construction accident in Greenwood and still are trying to figure out which construction companies were involved. Three workers died and two were seriously injured when a wall collapsed on them about 4 p.m. yesterday. Ohio-based Renier Construction is the general contractor, but projects typically include a number of subcontractors. Records show no safety violations were uncovered during three recent inspections of Renier projects nationwide.

| | Adesa to buy auction software developer Carmel-based auto auction Adesa Inc. said yesterday that it intends to buy the 82 percent of Live Global Bid Inc. it doesn't already own. Headquartered in Moose Jaw in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, Live Global Bid offers software Adesa uses to broadcast auctions over the Internet. Nine-year-old Live Global Bid will be renamed LiveBlock Auctions International Inc., and continue providing services to Adesa and other customers.
Gary airport, railroads agree on expansion The Gary/Chicago International Airport has reached a preliminary agreement with three railroads that will allow the airport to proceed with a runway expansion. Airport Administrator Chris Curry says the preliminary agreement with the railroads was reached yesterday and could be finalized within two weeks. It calls for railroad tracks to be relocated so that the airport's primary runway can be expanded to 8,900 feet and a secondary runway also can be extended.
Bad economic news hammers Cummins stock Shares of Columbus-based Cummins Inc. fell further this morning, continuing a slide triggered by skyrocketing oil prices and other bad economic news. Shares late this morning were trading for $65.02, off $1.69, or 2.5 percent. Yesterday, stock in the diesel engine maker tumbled $5.87, or 8.1 percent.
Potential rival to Lilly's Forteo may face scrutiny Amgen's experimental osteoporosis drug denosumab, potentially a competitor to Eli Lilly and Co.'s Forteo, could have difficulty gaining Food and Drug Administration approval in its initial try, according to an osteoporosis doctor who conducted clinical trials for Amgen. The doctor said the FDA may have concerns about a higher incidence of infections in patients taking denosumab compared with patients taking a placebo.
AIT chief wins entrepreneurship award The CEO of AIT Laboratories in Indianapolis has won a Midwest Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ernst & Young in the "turnaround" category. Michael A. Evans received the award at a gala in Chicago last night. Evans spent his savings to found AIT 18 years ago. Growth initially came slowly for AIT, which conducts toxicology and analytical testing. But in the past three years, AIT has tripled its work force and quadrupled its revenue.

Donations will help tornado victims Today is the last chance to donate to storm victims at a drop-off site at the Marion County Fairgrounds, 7300 East Troy Ave. The donations will benefit victims of the tornadoes that hit the east side in late May. Items such as appliances, furniture and linens will be accepted from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Victims will be able to pick out items Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. People interested in receiving donated items should bring photo identification and paperwork from the Red Cross or another assisting agency. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.

| Funeral held for Indiana soldier Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew Whitacre was laid to rest this morning after a funeral at his alma mater, Jay County High School. The 21-year-old was killed during combat in Afghanistan. Many flags in the town of Bryant have flown at half mast since his death. Whitacre's father, Ernie, says his son always was ready to stand up for somebody.
Festival goes on, despite loss of bridge The Moscow Covered Bridge Festival will go on as planned this weekend, even though the community's covered bridge was destroyed by a tornado June 3. Normally, money from the event is used for the following year's festival. But this year donations and proceeds will go toward construction of a new covered bridge. The festival started today and runs through Sunday.
