| BSU: $126M in flood damage Flooding over the weekend caused an estimated $126 million in damage across central Indiana, according to a study by The Bureau of Business Research at Ball State University. The estimate included damage to structures and contents of homes and business, and $45 million in damage to public buildings, roads, bridges and water and sewer systems. The study was authored by Ball State economist Michael Hicks and Mark Burton, from the University of Tennessee. The two published an analysis of Hurricane Katrina's economic impact in September 2005.
Lilly, partners release report on diabetes drug Indianapois-based Eli Lilly and Co., along with California-based Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Massachusetts-based Alkermes Inc., released clinical trial results Monday night for their long-acting version of Byetta, a diabetes drug that analysts expect to be a big seller. The study showed that patients maintained and even improved on their lower blood sugar and weight levels when being on long-acting Byetta for 52 weeks, compared with results yielded after 30 weeks on the medicine. | | | | |
| | Hiring at Agape call center below expectations Agape Communications LLC, a startup call center in Anderson that said May 2 it would hire 75 workers immediately, has only filled 20 positions, reports Anderson's Herald Bulletin. Company officials said they are receiving fewer applications than expected and can't explain the lack of interest.
Dow gives to flood relief efforts Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences will donate $25,000 to Indiana flood relief efforts. The Dow Chemical Co. Foundation will give the money to the American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis to help victims of the flooding that has caused dozens of counties to be declared disaster areas. Dow AgroSciences is a subsidiary of Michigan-based Dow Chemical Co. On Monday, Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. announced it would donate $100,000 to the Red Cross for flood relief.
Apartment manager loses contract Locally based Flaherty & Collins Properties laid off 10 employees after losing a management contract for properties in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The move comes after California-based AIG Sun America elected to consolidate its property management operations, said Mark Conover, a Flaherty spokesman. The change affects the management of only one local complex.

Governor, FEMA tour state Gov. Mitch Daniels will travel to Knox County in southwest Indiana today to survey damage. FEMA officials are touring flood damaged-areas in Johnson and Bartholomew counties, where they will set up offices where flood victims can report what they've lost and what they need. Look for complete coverage tonight on Fox 59 News at 10.
Three storm-related deaths confirmed Officials have confirmed a third death from this weekend's massive flooding. Steve Gates, 54, Columbus, was discovered in Bartholomew County's Haw Creek, about two miles downstream from where he was washed away. Saturday, Earnest Wilmer, 53, Hope, drowned in Bartholomew County after his car ran off the road. Mark Stroud, 44, Coatesville, was found Monday in Morgan County. Stroud had been missing since Saturday.

| Red Cross holds telethon to assist victims The Red Cross will hold a telethon today to raise money for Hoosier storm victims. The event runs until 9 p.m. tonight. Donations can be made by calling 1-866-620-0585.
Officials eye Elnora levee All 700 residents of the town of Elnora were ordered to evacuate late last night due to concerns from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Officials are worried about the stability of a levee along the White River in Daviess County. Forecasters expect rising water to overflow the levee today and there is the potential for it to fail. Marines re-enforced the mile-long embankment yesterday with about 54,000 sandbags.
