Indianapolis company recalls toothpaste
GilChrist & Soames, an Indianapolis company that supplies toothpaste to hotels across the globe, is recalling toothpaste made in China because samples were found to be contaminated with diethylene glycol. GilChrist & Soames issued the recall after the Food and Drug Administration handed down new guidelines for acceptable levels of the chemical. The company is owned by E&A Industries Inc. E&A is partly owned by Indianapolis businessman Al Hubbard, now director of the National Economic Council. Full Story

Emmis launches high school sports Web site
Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications Corp. and the Indiana High School Athletic Association said today that they have started a Web site for sports coverage. The free site, IHSAASports.org, includes live and archived video and audio as well as scores,
video interviews, stories and schedules. Other features include coach of the week and player of the week. The site, which launches today, will be the only site with live video of state high school sports during the regular season and tournaments.

Gannett changes pay rule in case of sale
Gannett Co. Inc., the nation's largest newspaper publisher and publisher of The Indianapolis Star, changed agreements with its top two executives that would accelerate payment of retirement and deferred compensation if the company is sold, according to a regulatory filing. Gannett said it made the change to comply with tax codes. The company said the move did not indicate it was entertaining offers. Full Story

NiSource missing outsourcing goal, report says
Two years after launching a plan to outsource 1,017 jobs through IBM, NiSource Inc. is 144 positions short of its goal, according to The Times of Munster. This spring, the Merrillville gas and electric utility announced to workers that some of the jobs would return because results hadn't met expectations. NiSource executives also told Wall Street analysts last month that the $530 million in projected savings haven't materialized. "We have engaged IBM at the highest level and we are now in midst of what I would characterize as sensitive discussions with the IBM folks," said CEO Robert Skaggs Jr.

Central Indiana students heading back to school
The summer is over for many students across central Indiana. School started today in Beech Grove, Brownsburg Community Schools, Clark-Pleasant Community Schools, Decatur Township, Southwestern in Shelby County, Speedway and Wayne Township. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.

INDOT relocating northeast-side cemetery
State workers are starting to move Whitesell Cemetery, a small cemetery dating to the 1800s, to make way for the widening of I-69. State workers started removing headstones today and later will remove remains in the graves by hand and place them at Crown Hill Cemetery. Whitesell Cemetery is near the I-69 and I-465 interchange. The process is expected to take about three weeks.

Clerk roughed up in northwestside robbery
Police say the BP in the 8500 block of Northwest Boulevard was robbed just before midnight yesterday. The suspect stole about $60 from the register, then forced the clerk into a back room and threw her to the floor. The suspect is described as a white male with tattoos on his arms and legs.
State lawmakers discuss property taxes
State lawmakers are getting together for a third time to talk about property taxes. The Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy is holding a public meeting this afternoon at the Statehouse to focus on what other states do to fix property tax issues.
