| Audiovox buys Technuity for $20.5M Indianapolis-based Technuity Inc. has been acquired by Audiovox Corp. of Hauppauge, N.Y., for $16.5 million, plus repayment of $4 million in debt. The deal closed Nov. 1, Audiovox announced today. Technuity is the exclusive North American licensee of Energizer Power Protection products and Energizer rechargeable batteries and accessories. About 30 people are employed at its headquarters at 6024 W. 79th St.; manufacturing is conducted overseas.
Peterson may be 'fallen star' after election loss In one day, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson on Tuesday went from being one of the biggest players in Indiana politics to someone being swept out of office with an uncertain future. Politicos from both parties saw Peterson as having potential to follow in the footsteps of fellow Democrat Evan Bayh, who was wildly popular as a two-term governor and is now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate. Now, though, "Bart Peterson is a fallen star," said Brian Vargus, a political science professor at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.

| | Indiana jobs moving to other states A study by the Indiana Business Research Center indicates the flow of jobs from Indiana to overseas locations has shifted and is now moving to other states. This year, nearly 60 percent of jobs that moved following mass layoffs are shifting to Michigan, Arizona, Iowa and South Carolina-in that order-as well as other states.
Kite Realty Group meets analyst expectations Funds from operations at the Indianapolis-based real estate investment trust Kite Realty Group Trust increased 6.7 percent in the third quarter. The $12 million in funds from operations, a common measure of REITs, amounted to 32 cents per share-matching the average estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial.
Honda mayor given boot in Greensburg The mayor who was in office when Honda Motor Co. announced in summer 2006 that it would build an assembly plant in Greensburg was shoved out of office yesterday by a wide margin. Democrat Frank Manus lost to Republican city council member Gary Herbert 1,679-1,000, according to the Greensburg Daily News . Herbert told the newspaper that Manus wasn't pivotal in attracting the plant, but credited him with "a good job of reacting to its presence."
Airport casts net for two sculptors The Indianapolis Airport Authority is looking for a few good sculptors-two, in fact. The authority is asking artists to submit proposals for two sculptures to go in the north garden at the new midfield terminal. The sculptures will be just the latest in the new terminal's $3.9 million arts program that includes everything from mosaic tile work on the floors to massive glass art windows in the terminal walkways.
L.A. Fitness to open Carmel club Carmel's first L.A. Fitness club plans to open in a 45,000-square-foot freestanding building to be built at 2700 E. 146th St., according to the landlord, Terre Haute-based Thompson Thrift. The building, which is leased to L.A. Fitness for 15 years, will be located in Cool Creek Village, a 79,800-square-foot mixed-use development. The Carrollton, Texas-based fitness chain has another Indianapolis-area club, at 6160 N. Keystone Ave., and is planning locations in Greenwood and Southport.
Homeless veterans migrate to Indianapolis The number of homeless veterans showing up on Chuck Haenlein's doorstep seems only to go up from year to year. On any given night, there are as many as 900 homeless veterans in the greater Indianapolis area, and as many as 3,500 statewide, said Haenlein, president of the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, citing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs statistics.

| Conn-Selmer strike could be nearing end About 144 ballots that could determine whether members of a United Auto Workers local at Conn-Selmer's Vincent Bach plant in Elkhart decertify the union have been sealed and are destined for the Indianapolis office of the National Labor Relations Board. The ballots, which are being challenged by both the company and union, could be either yes or no votes, according to The Truth of Elkhart. Workers walked off the job in April 2006 after rejecting a contract offer from Conn-Selmer, the largest maker of musical instruments in the country.

| Veterans help dedicate Hoosier Patriot Memorial A new memorial was dedicated this morning in honor of more than two centuries of service by the Indiana National Guard. The Hoosier Patriot Memorial is located on the grounds of Washington Park East Cemetery and Funeral Center. It features a bronze statue of a guardsman holding a child. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.
Fallen Indiana soldier to be remembered Friends and family of an Indiana soldier killed in Iraq by an exploding bomb during combat will remember his life today. Visitation for Capt. Timothy McGovern is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello. The 28-year-old was from the northern Indiana town of Idaville.
Bank robbery suspect on the loose U.S. Marshalls and FBI agents are helping law enforcement officers in Boone, Hamilton and Putnam Counties search for a suspected bank robber. Officers say John Study led them on a high-speed chase through three counties yesterday before the pursuit was called off in Hamilton County. Investigators say they believe Study is responsible for nine armed robberies in four west-central Indiana counties since January 2006.
2 children fall into comas after swallowing Aqua Dots Millions of toy beads are being recalled because they contain a chemical that metabolizes into the "date rape" drug GHB if ingested. Retailers started pulling Aqua Dots off shelves after two children in the United States and three in Australia were hospitalized. Health officials say the compound can cause seizures, coma and death.

Venture money spikes in Indiana, sort of Venture-capital funding for Indiana health care firms skyrocketed this year, according to a new report, but a little reality check brings it back to earth. According to BioEnterprise, a Cleveland-based promoter of life sciences companies, venture capital flowing into Indianapolis-area health care startups soared 12-fold during the first nine months of this year, compared with 2006. But $70 million of the $107 million attributed to Indianapolis went to Targanta Therapeutics Inc., a drug-development company that, while it has operations here, is now headquartered in Massachusetts. Five other Indianapolis-area companies received $37.3 million. Last year, six Indianapolis companies pulled in $8 million in venture money.
