| | "Mozart vs. Beethoven" Jan. 26 Indiana History Center What sounds like a classical version of MTV's "Celebrity Death Match" is actually just the gimmicky title for this Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra "Chamber Conversations" program, featuring Ludwig's "Romance No. 2 in F Major" and "String Quartet in F minor," as well as Wolfgang's "Symphony No. 1" and "Viola Quintet in G Minor." Still, if the promise of competition is what gets a few extra people in the door, so be it. Besides the classics, the ICO has helped steward the work of local composers. In this case, maestro Kirk Trevor and company will be presenting the world premiere of Becky Archibald's "Sailing with Ludwig." Not playing favorites, she also will perform her piano piece "From Mozart to Me." For more details, click here .
David Wiesner Jan. 25 Central Library There's a moment in David Wiesner's book "Tuesday" that always makes me laugh.
I say "always," because after first seeing the wordless work in 1980, I've shared it with literally dozens of people, watching their faces as they turn the page and see what the nameless frogs are up to on one particular Tuesday.
No, I'm not going to spoil it for you. But I will tell you that its author/illustrator will be in town for the 18th Annual Butler University Children's Literature Conference. The weekend kicks off with a free meet-the-authors event at the Central Library. Other kid-lit pros on the program include Arthur Levine, American editor for the Harry Potter books, and Gary Schmidt, author of the Newberry-winning "Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy." Shawn Mullins Jan. 25 Music Mill Train songs are a rite of passage for many a male singer-songwriter. Steve Goodman had "City of New Orleans." There was Johnny Cash's "Orange Blossom Special," Bruce Springsteen's "Downbound Train" and Warren Zevon's "Night Time in the Switching Yard." Shawn Mullins is no exception. The Atlanta native, who dipped into the pop charts with 1998's "Lullaby" and earned a teen following by placing his "Shimmer" on the "Dawson's Creek" soundtrack, has a very good train song of his own on his upcoming disc, "honeydew." Titled "See That Train," it seems to take Mullins on a trip into early Tom Waits territory. And it proves to be a journey worth taking.

| FringeFriday Jan. 25 Phoenix Theatre It's hard to believe that IndyFringe already is accepting applicants for this summer's festival. If, in the dead of winter, you miss the summer fest, consider braving the elements and visiting this sampler of fringe-like activity. This time around, the after-work free event includes a performance by Tonos Triad-consisting of an upright bass, classical guitar and accordion. A pair of short plays also is on the program.
