A House committee voted down a bill yesterday that would have required Indiana to generate 10 percent of its electricity from wind and other renewable sources by 2018 - a measure supporters said would attract new investment to the state. The House Commerce, Energy and Utilities Committee defeated the bill on an 8-3 vote after its chairman, Rep. Dave Crooks, D-Washington, refused to consider amendments he said were concessions to the state's electric utilities.   Full Story

Possible casino move in northern Indiana falters
A bill that would have allowed one of two Gary riverboat casino licenses to be transferred to northeast Indiana fizzled in a Senate committee yesterday and likely is dead this session. Don Barden wants to consolidate the two Gary Majestic Star casinos he owns on Lake Michigan into a single, larger operation and use one of the state gaming licenses to open a new casino elsewhere. Senate Appropriations Chairman Robert Meeks, R-LaGrange, filed a bill that would have allowed one of the licenses to be transferred to Steuben County in the far northeastern corner of the state.   Full Story

Hunter set a goal of collecting 40,000 shoes, but the goal was easily surpassed when nearly 110,000 shoes were donated.
