Pfizer eliminates 660 jobs at Terre Haute plant
Pfizer Inc. is eliminating 660 jobs at its plant near Terre Haute following the company's decision to drop the inhaled insulin Exubera because of disappointing sales. The company says it will begin eliminating the jobs in March and all the positions will be gone by the middle of this year. The workers had been on paid leave since production stopped in October.   Full Story

Woods Industries in Carmel to close

Carmel-based Woods Industries Inc., which manufactures and imports electrical products, is closing, according to a notice posted by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The closing will displace 68 workers by April 25, the notice said. Woods was acquired in November by Coleman Cable Inc. of suburban Chicago. Coleman manufactures electrical and electronic wires and cables. The company could not be reached for comment.   Full Story

Monaco lays off 200 near South Bend
Monaco Coach Corp., one of the nation's largest makers of recreational vehicles, laid off 200 of an estimated 1,200 workers at its plant in the northern Indiana town of Wakarusa late last week. The layoff was prompted by slowing demand, according to the South BendTribune.   Full Story

Check printer to expand in Jeffersonville
Texas-based Harland Clarke Corp. plans to relocate its Decatur, Ga., operations to its location in Jeffersonville, investing at least $1.5 million and adding 50 workers by 2010. Harland Clarke prints checks, deposit slips and other products for financial institutions. The company already employs about 200 in Jeffersonville.   Full Story

Skybus selling flights for $10 each
A new budget-priced airline will begin flying out of Gary/Chicago International Airport next month, reports The Times of Munster. The no-frills Skybus Airlines touts its ultra-low fares, with the first 10 tickets on each flight costing $10 apiece. The airline began flying from its headquarters of Columbus, Ohio, last May. It will fly to 11 cities from the Gary/Chicago airport. Skybus doesn't fly to Indianapolis.   Full Story

State trooper dies in the line of duty
Indiana State Trooper Daniel Barrett, 25, died last night in a single-car accident in northern Indiana. Police are unsure what caused Barrett's car to leave U.S. 31 and hit a tree as he was driving north in Fulton County. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Fox 59 will have the latest at 10:30 p.m., after President Bush's State of the Union address.

Metro police investigate suspected hit and run
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police found a man dead northeast of downtown last night. Officers found the body of Johnny Johnson, 55, Indianapolis, at 29th Street and Forest Manor Avenue. Police say his injuries and damage to a nearby fence are consistent with a hit and run.

Four hurt during fire at ISU
An unattended candle at an Indiana State University dorm caused a fire that hurt four people last night. The fire damaged three rooms on the 11th floor of Blumberg Hall. Students were not allowed to return to the top three floors of the building.

Senate considers bill targeting undocumented workers
The state Senate early this week will vote on a bill that could put Indiana businesses that hire undocumented workers out of business. Some in the Hispanic community believe State Bill 335 would be economically and socially detrimental to the state. The bill must clear the senate by Wednesday to become law.
