Black Expo chief jumps to Ivy Tech
Indiana Black Expo President and CEO Joyce Rogers has been named to lead fund raising and development for Ivy Tech Community College, Ivy Tech said today. Rogers, whose new title is vice president of development, rose to president of Black Expo in 2004 after serving as chief operating officer for three years.   Full Story

R.I.P. Marquis Tower
A 24-year-old's dream for a twisting downtown apartment tower has run into a brick wall. Jaron Garrett couldn't raise enough money to exercise contracts on the run-down properties he had hoped to redevelop. His contracts have expired and the buildings are back on the market for sale. Bridgestone unit signs big lease in Plainfield
Carmel-based BFS Diversified Products LLC has agreed to lease 226,000 square feet in a new building at Plainfield Business Center at Airwest. BFS is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas Holdings Inc. that manufactures building and roofing products, along with other items. The company will move into a building developed by Rosemont, Ill.-based Opus North Corp, which also has an office in Indianapolis.   Full Story

Rollins Construction sold to St. Louis builder
The St. Louis construction firm S.M. Wilson & Co. has bought Indianapolis-based Rollins Construction Co. Inc. for an undisclosed price to gain a foothold in the local health care market. The renamed Rollins Construction Co. LLC will compete for large hospital projects, Wilson said yesterday. Former Rollins president Garry Rollins, who will remain, said he wanted to start an ownership transition because his children didn't want to take over the company.   Full Story

Remy creditors accept bankruptcy plan
Remy Worldwide Holdings Inc. lenders have approved the Anderson company's bankruptcy reorganization plan by margins exceeding 98 percent, Remy announced yesterday. Remy, which manufactures starters and alternators, slashed $360 million of debt by exchanging notes, canceling its equity interests and raising $85 million in equity. Secured creditors were paid in full. The General Motors Corp. spinoff makes starters and generators.   Full Story

Life sciences exec named Fairbanks president
Fairbanks Institute for Healthy Communities has given interim president Dr. Cynthia Helphingstine the permanent role. Helphingstine has held several life sciences posts in the Indianapolis area, including translational scientific officer at BioCrossroads. Fairbanks, based in Indianapolis, is gathering a database of biological samples to improve disease prevention and detection.   Full Story

BioTown ethanol project suspended
South Dakota-based VeraSun Energy Corp. has temporarily halted construction of an ethanol plant in Reynolds, the state's designated BioTown north of Lafayette, reports the Journal and Courier. The company in a statement said unfavorable market conditions are the reason for the suspension. Construction could resume next year. The biorefinery would produce 110 million gallons of ethanol a year and employ 60 people once completed.

Kissingers exit Bioanalytical Systems
Peter Kissinger and his wife, Candice, have ended their tenures at Bioanalytical Systems, the West Lafayette company they started three decades ago. The couple resigned their board positions, although Peter Kissinger will remain as chairman emeritus, the contract research firm announced yesterday. Each received an undisclosed severance package. Bioanalytical Systems said the resignations complete the ongoing departure of the couple.   Full Story

Oxford Financial opens Chicago office
Oxford Financial Corp., the Indianapolis company that specializes in estate planning and other financial services for wealthy people, is opening a Chicago office to serve existing clients and seek new ones. Oxford said today that it has named Robert W. Hauswirth to head the Chicago office. Hauswirth has worked in a senior adviser position at Gresham Partners LLC in Chicago and as manager in the private-client-services group of Arthur Andersen LLP.

Ex-Guide workers behind temps to return to GM

General Motors Corp. will accept its temporary workers as permanent employees before allowing former employees of Guide Corp. to transfer in under the tentative contract between the Detroit automaker and the United Auto Workers. News of the delay yesterday angered Guide workers who hoped to snag jobs with GM, according to The Herald Bulletin of Anderson. Guide, which was spun off from GM in 1998, in January abruptly shuttered its Anderson tail light plant and another in Monroe, La., after losing a GM contract. The Anderson plant employed 1,200.
Colorado firm buys Indiana Fiber Works
A Colorado company said yesterday it has acquired Indiana Fiber Works and plans to diversify its product offerings. Louisville, Colo.-based Zayo Bandwidth wouldn't say how much it paid for the Indianapolis company, which was a subsidiary of General Electric Capital Corp. Indiana Fiber Works sells mostly "dark" fiber-optic service, that is, high-speed data lines not in continual use and dedicated to high-capacity data needs of larger companies. The company connects 21 of Indiana's largest cities with about 2,200 miles of fiber.   Full Story

Police search for suspects in shooting
Investigators say they have no motive or suspects in a shooting last night that killed a man on a north-side street. Police say Andre Norris was shot multiple times before they found him in the 3500 block of North Illinois Street. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.

Child falls from third-story apartment
A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling three stories from an apartment in Woodruff Place. Joshua Carter Jr.'s father says he heard his older son tell Joshua to get away from the window, but by the time the father got to the room, he saw Joshua fall. Police say they do not believe foul play was involved and are treating his fall as an accident.

Mother charged with dealing cocaine
Tiffany Rennier, 24, was arrested Sept. 1 on felony counts of dealing and possession of cocaine, and two counts of neglect of a dependent. Officers say the Indianapolis woman delivered cocaine to a location in Hamilton County while her two young children were in the back seat of her vehicle. A pre-trial hearing is set for December.

Flu shot clinics underway
Health officials are hitting the road to offer flu shots to local residents. Twenty-six clinics are scheduled across Marion County in the next few months, including two drive-through clinics today. The first will be at the Kroger on South Emerson Avenue and County Line Road from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The second is at the Moose Lodge, 7055 E. 16th Street. It runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Former church property to be auctioned
A parcel of about 16 acres on 71st Street just east of Michigan Road formerly owned by a church will be auctioned Nov. 6. The parcel, which requires a minimum bid of $390,000, was acquired by Phoenix-based Gold Star Trust Co. in a sheriff's sale about a year ago. Prior to that, St. David Community Christian Worship Center had owned the land, according to records at the Pike Township Assessor's Office.   Full Story  Full Story
