Publicis signs another sports-related deal
Ad agency Publicis Indianapolis is suddenly scoring with sports. Though it was not known for sports marketing before this year, Publicis' local office has nabbed two high-profile sports clients in recent months. The Indiana Fever announced yesterday they have struck an agency-of-record deal with the firm. Earlier this year, Publicis replaced Pearson Partners-formerly Pearson McMahon Fletcher England-as the Indiana Pacers' ad agency and implemented an innovative campaign featuring new Coach Jim O'Brien, but no players.   Full Story

Two large Century 21 affiliates merge
Two of the city's largest real estate agencies, both affiliates of Century 21, have agreed to merge and be headquartered in Carmel. Century 21 At The Crossing and Century 21 Scheetz will join, creating a company with more than 300 agents and five offices in the Indianapolis area, including downtown, Carmel, Zionsville and Greenwood. The company will retain the Century 21 Scheetz name. The original Scheetz company was founded by CEO Mick Scheetz in 1976.

Bloomington firm sued over coupon caper
Pepsico and Johnson & Johnson are among several big companies that have sued Bloomington-based International Outsourcing Services to try to recover $150 million the companies say they were bilked out of in a coupon scheme. The suit, filed Oct. 12 in Milwaukee, claims International Outsourcing turned in invoices for coupons that had not been used, according to the Herald-Times of Bloomington.   Full Story

Water bottler could create 100 jobs in NW Indiana
Ice River Springs, a water bottler headquartered in Ontario, Canada, will build a $20 million, 273,000-square-foot plant in Kentland, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The project in the town between Gary and Lafayette will employ as many as 100 to bottle purified water as well as water taken from a spring.   Full Story

Tax panel may not present single, detailed plan
A panel of lawmakers and tax experts who have been exploring ways to reduce Indiana's reliance on property taxes may not produce a single, detailed plan. State Sen. Luke Kenley says that the Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy that he chairs might only be able to agree on some common goals and concepts going into next year's legislative session.   Full Story

UPS chief-a Purdue grad-plans to retire
UPS Inc., the world's largest shipping carrier, said yesterday that CEO Mike Eskew will retire at the end of the year. Eskew, 58, graduated from Purdue University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and later finished a Purdue advanced management program. He has been with the company, also known as United Parcel Service Inc., for more than 30 years.   Full Story

Dealers at Evansville casino win right to unionize
Dealers and floor supervisors at Casino Aztar are not considered management under federal law and are eligible to unionize for collective bargaining, the National Labor Relations Board has ruled. The workers petitioned the NLRB in August, seeking the right to join the United Auto Workers, a union that represents members in a variety of trades   Full Story

Man held in Bloomington shootings
Bloomington police have captured a man they say shot several rounds from the back porch of his apartment this morning. The gunfire resulted in police closing several streets in the area of Second and Patterson. No injuries were reported. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.

Suspicious death investigated in Brownsburg
Brownsburg police continue to investigate the suspicious death of a man whose sons found him in his home in the 1700 block of Creekside Drive. He had a gunshot wound to his head. They checked on him because they had not heard from him in a week. Officers say a woman who lived with the victim hasn't been seen or heard from, but they haven't named her or anyone else as a suspect.


Metal detectors brought into Manual High School
Students at Manual High School are going through metal detectors today after a student fired a gun into the air at the school south of downtown yesterday morning. A 16-year-old freshman boy faces criminal recklessness charges in addition to being suspended and possibly expelled. Police are still looking for the gun.

Washington Township to discuss school closures
Beginning tonight, the public will have its turn to give comments on a controversial proposal to close Harcourt Elementary, near St. Vincent Hospital, and the Wyandotte Early Childhood Center in Washington Township. Officials say old buildings that have fallen into disrepair and flat enrollment are forcing them to make tough cuts. Tonight's meeting will be the first of a three part-series of community forums. The gathering is at 7 p.m. at Eastwood Middle School, 4401 E. 62nd Street.
Young child leads police to gun under crib
Three Indianapolis children are in the care of child protective services after police arrested their mother, Marilyn McClinton, 22, on drug possession charges Oct. 13. Officers say the kids were living within arm's reach of cocaine and a shotgun at their home in the 3200 block of Schofield Avenue near 30th Street and Keystone Avenue. They said the 4-year-old led them to a gun hidden under a crib and also told them a digital scale was what you use to weigh marijuana.
