Indianapolis might push for college world series
Indianapolis is being mentioned as a possible site for the 2011 College World Series, which suddenly appears to be in play. In a recently released list of future NCAA championship events, the 2011 baseball series is listed as having no host site. Omaha, which has hosted the event since 1950, will get first crack at negotiating for the event, said sources close to the NCAA. A 2003 study conducted by Creighton University estimated the 10-day event held each June had a $33.8 million economic impact on the host city.   Full Story

Baker & Daniels signs stadium rights deal
The Indianapolis Colts have nailed down their third, multi-million-dollar sponsorship deal within a month. At noon today, team officials announced from their 56th Street training complex that Baker & Daniels LLP has signed a six-year deal to be a founding partner at Lucas Oil Stadium, which is set to open next fall. The agreement will include naming rights for the upper and lower east club levels, as well as media advertising.   Full Story

Arcadia HealthCare appoints executives
Arcadia HealthCare, the Detroit-area company that announced Oct. 10 it will move its headquarters to Indianapolis, has named two high-level executives. New Executive Vice President and General Counsel Michelle Molin was a partner at the law firm Ice Miller. Steve Zeller has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Services from BestCare Travel Staffing LLC, an Arcadia arm.   Full Story

State museum to start traveling corn exhibit
The Indiana State Museum is expected to announce details today about a major traveling exhibit on corn that will debut locally in August 2009. Museum employees have developed content for the $1 million-plus show, which eventually will be travel to other museums in exchange for a fee. While the museum has produced other shows, including one on quilts that traveled to California and Japan, the Corn exhibit will be its largest undertaking.   Full Story

Ball State lengthens Gora's contract
Ball State University's contract with President Jo Ann Gora has been extended to June 2012 from August 2009, when it was set to expire, following a unanimous vote by university trustees. The action was taken during a meeting last month, according to The Star Press of Muncie. Gora arrived at the campus in 2004. Gora's base salary started at $260,000 and is now $330,000.   Full Story

Nothing But Noodles acquired by competitor
Nothing But Noodles, a Scottsdale, Ariz., restaurant chain, has been acquired by Noodles & Co. of Aurora, Colo., in a move that affects at least two Indianapolis locations. As a result of the merger, a Nothing But Noodles at 3625 E. 96th Street has been closed because of its close proximity to a Noodles & Co. restaurant at nearby Carmel Drive. A location near IUPUI at 903 Indiana Ave. has been closed until it can be reopened as a Noodles & Co. in early November. Noodles & Co. specializes in casual Asian, Mediterranean and American foods.
 
Landmark acquisition fuels First Internet profit
First Internet Bancorp said yesterday that third-quarter profit shot up 63 percent, largely because of its acquisition of Landmark Financial Corp. Indianapolis-based First Internet said it earned $664,325 in the period ended Sept. 30. The online bank closed its $12 million purchase of Landmark on Jan 1. Landmark was the parent of Landmark Savings Bank and Landmark Mortgage Co.

IMF sees strong global economic growth
The global economy should grow soundly this year and next, although the persistence of a credit crunch that has unnerved financial markets worldwide could throw a wrench in the works. In its latest World Economic Outlook, the International Monetary Fund today projected that the global economy would grow by 5.2 percent this year and moderate to 4.8 percent in 2008. The forecast for this year-which didn't change from a projection issued in July-would be slightly slower than last year's brisk 5.4 percent global growth.   Full Story

Governor to reveal property tax plan
Gov. Mitch Daniels will announce his property tax relief plan tonight. Daniels has said he does not want to eliminate property taxes, but that he wants to spread the tax burden. That could require an amendment to the state constitution. Fox 59 will bring you the latest at 10 p.m.

IPS to close five more schools
IPS administrators are adding five schools to the list of those they're thinking about closing. However, administrators haven't named those facilities. Yesterday's announcement brings the total number of schools that could shut their doors to eight. IPS will host a series of public forums before voting on the matter next month. The first is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Tech High School, 1500 E. Michigan St.

Dalai Lama coming to Bloomington
The Dalai Lama is returning to Bloomington today. Organizers expect a small group of protestors when he gives speeches at the Tibetan Center and IU's Assembly Hall. He's also participating at an interfaith ceremony at Saint Paul's Catholic Church.

Mayoral candidates square off at debate
The three candidates for Indianapolis mayor addressed the property tax issue last night during the final major debate scheduled before Election Day. They answered questions from the public at the Fox 59 studios. The debate will be aired on Fox 59 at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27.
