| | Blue Man Group, Oct. 12, Conseco Fieldhouse Will someone who claims that audiences are predictable explain how one of the hottest touring acts in the country consists of three anonymous, mute, bald, blue guys? While it's inexplicable, the Blue Man Group phenomenon does speak well of our ability to transcend the literal. On this visit, part of its "How To Be A Megastar Tour 2.1," the trio spoofs/celebrates the magic that is arena rock. More information here.
Raymond Leppard Birthday Celebration, Oct. 12-13 at Hilbert Circle Theatre Remember back when you were a kid and you had one birthday party at home and also shared some cupcakes in a party at school? Well, Raymond Leppard gets something like the same deal this year. A few weeks back, the University of Indianapolis offered a birthday concert for the former artistic leader of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Now he's got another party to attend and to work. He'll be conducting the ISO in a concert featuring the music of Dvorak, Ravel and Eldar. Pascal Roge joins him on piano. For more details, click here.
Van Halen, Oct. 14 at Conseco Fieldhouse It must be tough being a serious, long-term fan of Van Halen. There's so much asked of you. First, you're supposed to love David Lee Roth. Then you're not. Instead, you're supposed to love Sammy Hagar. Then Mitch Malloy. Then, briefly, Roth again. But not Hagar. Then Gary Cherone. Then Hagar again. Then your loyalty could be pulled over to Hagar and Roth (who toured together independent of Van Halen).
But now, today, order in the Van Halen universe has been restored. Roth is back in the mix. "Van Halen III" is semi-ancient history.
Of course, that depends on what you think of Eddie Van Halen's teen son, Wolfgang, the band's new bassist ... For more details, click here.
"Cabaret Fest 2007," Oct. 15 at the American Cabaret Theatre You'll be forgiven if you haven't heard of the Beckmann Theatre, although you may remember its namesake as the press secretary to then-mayor Richard Lugar in the early 1970s. He was also the first president of the Arts Council of Indianapolis. For full preview, click here.
Carlos Fuentes, Oct. 15 at Clowes Hall "Time," Carlos Fuentes has said, "is the subject matter of all my fiction." This time, though, the subject of his visit to Indianapolis isn't his fiction, but immigration. For full preview, click here.

| Dave Attell, Oct. 12-14 at Crackers Broad Ripple Anyone who bothered thinking hard about Dave Attell's Comedy Central show "Insomniac" knew that it had a finite lifespan. For full preview, click here.
This week's contest: The Whirling Dervishes of Rumi You and three friends can catch this internationally acclaimed Turkish company in performance at the University of Indianapolis' Ransburg Auditorium. This $140 value can be yours just by clicking here . We'll pick one winner at random. While you are there, just for fun, replace "Whirling" with another adjective, "Dervishes" with another noun, and "Rumi" with another place name to come up with an unlikely performing arts group (i.e. The Dancing Dentists of Denver).
We'll feature our favorite responses next week.
By the way, last week's winner, Karen Bault, scored four tickets to see Avner the Eccentric at the Pike Performing Arts Center. For that contest, we asked respondents for their own clown name. Find our favorite responses here.
