Emmis makes major radio moves
In one of the biggest local radio station format shake-ups in recent years, Emmis Communications Corp. announced today that WIBC-AM 1070 will become an all-sports station. The station will be an affiliate of ESPN Radio. Meanwhile, the company's rock and hip-hop station, WNOU-FM 93.1, will change to a news-talk format, a rarity on the local FM dial. WNOU now will be called WIBC-FM. It essentially will air the same news and talk programming that had been on WIBC-AM 1070.   Full Story

UAW might strike Chrysler on Wednesday
The United Auto Workers has set Wednesday as the deadline to reach an agreement with Chrysler on a new four-year contract, reports The New York Times, citing people with direct knowledge of the negotiations. Chrysler employs about 6,400 in Indiana, including 4,785 at four plants in Kokomo.   Full Story

Court green-lights liquidation of Benicorp
Indiana insurance Commissioner Jim Atterholt can begin liquidating the assets of Indianapolis-based Benicorp Insurance Co. now that he has won approval from Marion County Judge Theodore Sosin. Sosin, who put Benicorp into receivership two months ago, approved the liquidation late last week. Atterholt and his staff at the Indiana Department of Insurance took over Benicorp's business after the company fell three months behind in paying health claims generated by its 52,000 policyholders.   Full Story

GM workers in Fort Wayne barely ratify pact
Only 50.7 percent of union workers at General Motors Corp.'s Fort Wayne pickup truck assembly plant ratified the United Auto Workers contract, according to The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne. Under the contract, the 3,000-worker plant would assemble Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups four more years. It then would produce a new generation of the trucks.   Full Story

UPS Freight workers ratify initial contract
By a vote of 107-1, workers at UPS Freight in Indianapolis have ratified their first contract with the trucking unit. The deal, which calls for higher wages, more benefits and improved working conditions, was reached Sept. 30. Local 135 represents 125 dockworkers and drivers. The Teamsters intend to use the agreement as a pattern to organize other UPS Freight sites. The UPS Freight workers were with Overnight Transportation before Richmond, Va.-based Overnight was acquired by UPS in 2005.

Johnson County councilman sells golf course
Ron West, a member of the Johnson County Council, has sold Royal Oak Golf Course in Greenwood to locally based Divine Investment Group for an undisclosed price, according to Leading Edge Commercial Real Estate Services, the brokerage firm representing both parties. R.H. West Management also owns Cypress Run golf course east of Franklin as well as courses in Indianapolis and Hendricks and Huntington counties.   Full Story

West Lafayette to get $60M mixed-use project

Atlanta-based Collegiate Ventures LLC plans to build a $60 million mixed-used project on 6.4 acres in West Lafayette. The project would include 80 to 100 hotel rooms, 115 condos, and retail and office space.   Full Story

Plainfield apartments sell for $29.5M
Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins said it has sold its Central Park Metropolis apartment complex in Plainfield to the Chicago investment group Becovic for $29.5 million. The property has 264 units, making the price per unit $111,000.

Council to determine fate of take-home cars
The Indianapolis City-County Council is expected to decide tonight whether hundreds of city and county employees can continue taking home government-owned vehicles. Ending the practice would save millions of tax dollars. Fox 59 News will have more at 10 p.m.

Suspects arrested after store robbery
Two juveniles are behind bars after allegedly robbing a video game store in the Linwood Square Plaza at East Washington and LaSalle streets yesterday afternoon. Police say the teens led them on a pursuit along East Washington. A third suspect surrendered to police at the scene of the crime.

Reassessment starts in Marion County
A private firm starts reassessing all commercial property in Marion County today. The county hired Michigan-based Manatron Inc. for $1.8 million and gave the company a deadline of Feb.1. The Marion County Assessor's Office is reassessing residential properties.
