| Brightpoint, Blackberry parent enter pact Plainfield-based Brightpoint Inc. said yesterday it has inked a distribution deal with Research In Motion - the company that designs, manufactures and distributes the BlackBerry smart phone - to distribute the BlackBerry globally. Brightpoint spokesman Anurag Gupta said RIM will help Brightpoint expand to 8 percent to 9 percent of the total global cell phone market this year from last year's market share of 6 percent to 7 percent.
Anderson lands call center, potential for 400 jobs A call center operator has chosen Anderson for a new office and plans to hire as many as 400 workers within a year, Mayor Kris Ockomon said this morning. Agape LLC, a startup, picked Anderson for its available work force and access to fiber optics. About 75 workers will be hired immediately. Positions will pay an average of $10 an hour.

State schools chief Reed not seeking fifth term Republican Suellen Reed won't seek a fifth four-year term as the state's school superintendent. Reed says in a news release today that working over the past 16 years to advance the aspirations and achievements of students has been among the most rewarding experiences of her life. But she says she is ready to embrace new challenges.
Linens 'n Things files for bankruptcy protection Bedding- and home-furnishing retailer Linens 'n Things today filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the latest major retailer to succumb to the difficult consumer environment. The company's parent, Linens Holding Co., filed a petition in bankruptcy court in Delaware. It wasn't immediately clear whether any of the nine Indiana stores will be among the 120 the company said it would close.
Refrigerator maker leaving Richmond Marvel Industries Inc. plans to shift refrigerator production from Richmond to its plant in Greenville, Mich., resulting in the loss of 140 jobs in the eastern Indiana city, according to the Palladium-Item. A timetable for the pull-out was not disclosed, the newspaper said. State and local officials offered $2.6 million in incentives to keep the plant.
Tyson workers sue over treatment in Logansport Employees of Tyson Foods Inc.'s hog slaughterhouse in Logansport have sued the company, claiming they weren't paid for overtime work. More than 600 of the possible 2,000 workers covered by the suit have joined as plaintiffs, their Wilmington, Del., law firm Grant & Eiesenhofer said yesterday.
Arcadia buys Carolina care firm Indianapolis-based Arcadia Resources Inc. has acquired a small in-home health care company in North Carolina for an undisclosed price. Carolina Care generated $2.1 million in revenue last year serving Medicaid patients from three locations. Both companies have home health care offices in Winston-Salem, N.C., which Arcadia plans to merge to save money.
Consultant says Evansville should build stadium A consultant says Evansville should replace the aging Roberts Stadium with a downtown arena that could host hockey games and concerts. The report by Gateway Consultants doesn't identify a site. But it says that a 10,000-seat arena could attract a minor-league hockey franchise to the city.

| Regulators approve controversial BP permit State regulators yesterday issued the final environmental permit needed for BP PLC to start work on a planned $3.8 billion expansion of its oil refinery along Lake Michigan. The air emissions permit still needs approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, but the state action allows BP to start construction work at the Whiting refinery. An environmental group that has been fighting the project called the state's review "drive-by permitting" and said it was considering its options for appealing the decision.
Carson, Burton face tough primary challenges U.S. Rep. Andre Carson has barely had time to settle into his new office in Washington, but he might not want to get too comfortable. Eight weeks after winning a special election to fill the remainder of his late grandmother's term, Indiana's newest congressman faces a crowded field in Tuesday's Democratic primary for a full two-year term. The race is hard to predict despite support for Carson from state party officials and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Bill Clinton, Obama continue stumping Former President Bill Clinton will be in central Indiana today campaigning for his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He will be at Greenfield Middle School at 4 p.m., then at the Main Gym in Beech Grove at 5:30 p.m. From there, he travels to Avon High School for a 7 p.m. rally and will finish with an 8:30 p.m. rally at Lebanon Middle School. Clinton opponent Barack Obama will speak with workers just south of downtown today and address the media afterward. Fox 59 News will have more at 10 p.m.
Racers gear up for Mini More than 60 vendors will be on hand today to give athletes participating in tomorrow's 500 Festival Mini-Marathon the chance to try out the latest gear, sample fitness products and learn health information. The 13.1-mile race is sold out, with 35,000 entrants. Competitors can pick up their Mini-Marathon packets today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center. There is no packet pickup tomorrow.
Project closes ramps along I-465 Commuters are preparing for more construction delays along Interstate 465 on the west side. The northbound entrance and exit ramps at Rockville Road will be closed tomorrow through May 23 as part of preparations for the Accelerate 465 project. All entrance and exit ramps connecting I-465 southbound with Rockville Road will remain open for now.
