| | Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra May 16-17 Hilbert Circle Theatre In previewing symphonic music, it's easy to get in the habit of celebrating celebrity. A name comes in from the outside and it's easier to get excited about a concert.
But as anyone who has been to Hilbert Circle Theatre lately knows, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is far more than just a back-up band for famous visitors. And this week's concert, featuring the first-ever pairing of Concertmaster Zach De Pue with Principal Guest Concertmaster Alexander Kerr, is a good opportunity to hear the ISO without outside adornment. The De Pue/Kerr pairing on Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor" is the undercard. The title bout is Anton Bruckner's "Symphony No. 6."

Broad Ripple Art Fair May 17-18 Indianapolis Art Center The Indianapolis Art Center is as much about creating art as it is about presenting it. So if you plan on going there to check out the 38th annual Broad Ripple Art Fair, why not get your hands dirty? Spin a pot, add to a mural, or get caught up in the spirit and sign up for an IAC class to actually learn what you are doing.
Of course, you could just kick back in front of any of the five performance stages and browse the rows and rows of artists. For more details, click here.
"Fathers and Sons" May 16-18 Indiana Repertory Theatre Dance audiences here may have had their first look at the spirited, talented, Kenyetta Dance Company at last month's Spotlight benefit at Clowes Hall. In an impressively unselfish move, Dance Kaleidoscope is offering another opportunity, inviting two Kenyetta dancers, Nicholas A. Owens and Gregory Manning II, to be part of DK's season-closing program.
The Kenyetta piece, "Children of Light," will be bookended by a revival of the David Hochoy choreographed "Seasons," and a new Hochoy work, "I Never Danced for My Father," which includes video of the papas of DK's male dancers. The latter also features original music by IUPUI prof Scott Deal.

| Jon McLaughlin May 18 Indianapolis Motor Speedway It's Bump Day. It's IMS Armed Forces day. And it's a day where, even if you aren't a motorsports fan, you can easily justify the $10 gate cost for a chance to hear Indiana-native Jon McLaughlin in a concert at 3 p.m. Expect to hear his first single of the year, "Beating My Heart," which should hit radio stations in early June.

The Pete Best Band May 21 Radio Radio I suspect it gets old for Pete Best.
Every story written about him probably mentions the fact that, from August of 1960 to August of 1962, he was one of the Beatles. | | | | |
| But these days, Best doesn't seem shy about embracing his status as pop music's biggest "oh, so close." The self-proclaimed "Man who put the beat in Beatles" even released an album called "Best of The Beatles."
Admit it: Aren't you curious about his sound? Go hear this piece of music history in concert Wednesday in Fountain Square.

This Week's Contest This week, win a four-pack of tickets to Conner Prairie's Indiana Festival, happening June 7-8. Just fill out the form here. We'll pull one name at random next week. (For more information on the Indiana Festival, click here.)
Oh, and while filling out the entry form, tell us a random fact about Indiana.
Last week, we offered two winners each a pair of tickets to the 38th Broad Ripple Art Fair and a BRAF T-shirt. The winners? Susan Emsweller and Cindy Hawkins. We asked entrants to name their favorite piece of outdoor art. Some of our favorite responses are here.
