Hospital exec resigns abruptly over 'style'
Major Hospital CEO Tony Lennen says differences in personal style were key factors in his decision to resign suddenly on Monday. "There has been a lot of changes on our board," Lennen, 50, said. He would not discuss whether he had been asked to resign, nor would he divulge other details of his departure.   Full Story

Colliers parent to be headquartered in St. Louis
The new holding company being formed by Colliers Turley Martin Tucker and three other commercial real estate firms will be headquartered in St. Louis, and include all 25 existing Indianapolis shareholders. Colliers Turley Martin Tucker, which is based in St. Louis, announced the deal yesterday along with Colliers Pinkard of Baltimore, Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers of Washington, D.C., and New York City-based Colliers ABR.   Full Story


Battery developer buys out partner
Ener1 Inc., a company that's racing to develop automotive lithium ion batteries at a site in Indianapolis, has bought out its partner in an effort to open greater opportunities. The deal, which materialized as part of Delphi's exit from bankruptcy protection, makes Ener1 the sole owner of EnerDel Inc., the company's Indianapolis-based operating unit. EnerDel is developing the batteries at 8740 Hague Road near Fishers.   Full Story

Daniels takes new shot at privatizing lottery
Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels is reviving his contentious proposal to lease the Hoosier Lottery to a private operator, saying it is one option to pay for a proposed college scholarship program. Daniels wants to create Hoosier College Promise, a program that would help students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year. Students could get up to $6,000 in each of their first two years at an Indiana school.   Full Story

Adesa profit, revenue shoot up
Carmel-based KAR Holdings Inc., which owns the Adesa Inc. auto auction and Insurance Auto Auctions Inc., reported late yesterday that second-quarter profit increased nearly 35 percent to $6.2 million from the second quarter last year. KAR, which didn't elaborate on the performance, had no operations until its acquisition of Adesa closed on April 20 in 2007. Revenue climbed to $468.5 million from $310.1 million.

Former credit union manager sentenced
A former manager at an Indiana credit union has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for embezzling almost $400,000. A federal judge today also ordered 35-year-old Jill Carey to make $394,941 in restitution to Health Care Professionals Credit Union of Richmond, where she worked from 1993 to 2006 and was responsible for supervising tellers.   Full Story

AIT expands beyond original expectations
AIT Laboratories has added 77 jobs this year, exceeding the 50 jobs it promised to add by the end of the year. Seventeen are sales jobs outside the Indianapolis area. The job growth brings total AIT employment to 224. The growth is in addition to the 60 jobs added in 2007. In the past three years, AIT has more than tripled its work force and quadrupled its revenue. The Indianapolis company performs forensic and clinical testing on the far west side.

World's tallest woman dies
Sandy Allen, who was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest woman, died this morning in Shelbyville at age 53. The cause of death was not immediately available. Allen stood more than 7 feet 7 inches and was named by Guiness as the tallest woman in 1976. Her height was caused by a tumor in her pituitary gland. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.
 
Officers crash en route to break-in
Two Indianapolis police officers are in the hospital after crashing into each other early this morning while on their way to investigate a break-in at a home in the 5700 block of Port Au Prince Way on the far-west side. Adam Jones and Erik Forestal collided at West Washington Street and South Lynhurst Drive. They're in stable condition and are expected to be released today.

Classes resume today at IPS
As 35,000 students head back to classes at Indianapolis Public Schools today, they will notice major changes. One is the opening of Sidener Academy, a school for gifted students in grades 2 through 5. IPS officials also are stepping up efforts to raise graduation rates, which now average around 50 percent. Some students who have fallen behind will be shifted to schools where the staff is trained to help them. Meanwhile, Fox 59 is getting early reports of problems with new bus routes now in place.

State announces crackdown on impaired driving
Indiana will launch an 18-day crackdown on drunken driving beginning Friday. The effort, which will involve more than 250 Indiana law-enforcement agencies, is part of a national push called "Drunk Driving. Over The Limit. Under Arrest." The Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute announced the initiative this morning.



Office lease activity declines, report says
A dramatic decrease in office lease activity is forcing landlords in some suburban areas to get creative to woo tenants, according to a market report released last week. Signed leases in some suburban areas, such as Keystone Crossing, decreased nearly 50 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Meridian MarketWatch midyear report.
