| Indy area to snag a third of new EnerDel jobs EnerDel Inc.'s $100 million expansion, one of the biggest in the state this year, earmarks 277 of the 850 new positions for the Indianapolis area. The lithium-ion battery company announced this morning that it will add 217 jobs to the 100 positions at its headquarters at 8740 Hague Road on the far northeast side of Indianapolis. The new Indianapolis jobs will involve research and cell production.
Fillenwarth Dennerline appeals jury verdict The Indianapolis law firm socked by an $18 million jury verdict two years ago over the collapse of a health insurance trust has appealed to the state's highest court. If Fillenwarth Dennerline Grothe & Towe can escape the verdict, the firm might be relieved of an agreement it struck with the Indiana Department of Insurance this summer to stop pursuing a potentially lucrative bad-faith claim against its malpractice insurer. | | | | |
| | Bob & Tom Show to make TV debut The Bob & Tom Show, the long-running morning radio show, will be shown on the WGN America network beginning Nov. 3, the show said today. WGN will broadcast highlights of the radio show from midnight to 1 a.m. Locally, the program is being carried on WTTV-TV Channel 4. The show, which features comedy and guests, and is hosted by Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold, airs on 150 radio stations, including WFBQ-FM 94.7.
Tipton County Hospital leased by Clarian Tipton County officials have unanimously approved leasing Tipton County Hospital to Indianapolis-based Clarian Health for 35 years. Clarian has managed the hospital for 10 years in a relationship that feeds patients to the sprawling Clarian system and, for Tipton, offers medical expertise and muscle to negotiate with insurers. Under the agreement, the county will continue to own the land and building, according to the Kokomo Tribune. The board will include two members representing Clarian and five who live or work in Tipton, which is between Noblesville and Kokomo.
Lowry replacing Wynns as Indy parks director Stuart Lowry was named by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard yesterday as director of Indy Parks and Recreation. Lowry replaces Joe Wynns, who resigned unexpectedly nearly a week ago after eight years on the job. Early this month, Wynns said he had been asked to cut $2.3 million from the department's $17 million budget, although he later said in a published report that his resignation wasn't driven by the constraint.
Workplace deaths hit historic low On-the-job injuries leading to death were lower in the state last year than at any time since 1991, the first year the statistic was tracked, the Indiana Department of Labor said yesterday. The 127 fatalities were most heavily concentrated among truck drivers, farmers and construction workers, and 94 percent were male.
Northern Indiana auto-parts supplier to expand Millennium Industries, an auto-parts maker in the northern Indiana town of Ligonier, plans to build an additional 30,000 square feet of production and warehouse space, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said yesterday. The expansion would create 170 jobs in addition to 250 existing positions. Millennium, which makes fuel rails and power-steering components, received $625,000 in state incentives. Ligonier is between Fort Wayne and Elkhart. State to fund training for displaced RV workers The state will make $3 million in federal training funds available to recreational vehicle industry workers who lost their jobs because of layoffs caused by the struggling economy and high gasoline prices. Eligible displaced workers can receive up to $6,000 to enter a program to earn an associate's degree or industry-recognized certificate in a program connected to high-need occupations. | | | |

Joe Biden's emergence at the center of speculation about who will be Barack Obama's running mate may say more about Obama's challenges in the presidential race than it does about the final selection. Obama is keeping his decision quiet, but his staff in Chicago and party activists are buzzing about Biden, in large part because he can address two of Obama's biggest weaknesses - his lack of experience, especially on world affairs, and his reluctance to attack his opponent. Obama also is believed to be considering Govs. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas and Tim Kaine of Virginia, and Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.

Overnight shooting injures four Four people were hurt in a shooting west of downtown at 11th Street and Sheffield Avenue just before midnight. Indianapolis police say they found the victims on the front porch and in the yard of a vacant house. They believe the shots came from across the street, near the southwest corner of a church. One victim was hit in the neck and was to taken Wishard Hospital in critical but stable condition. State Police detonate pipe bomb in Fishers A traffic stop last night of a man who Fishers police say was speeding led to a search of his vehicle and the discovery of a pipe bomb in his trunk. Matthew Clark was pulled over at 7:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Olio Road and charged with possession of a destructive device with intent to hurt someone. A state police bomb squad detonated the bomb.
Anderson police officer charged with drunk driving Investigators say an Anderson police officer had a blood alcohol content of 0.16, twice the state's legal limit of less than.08, when he was stopped at a Noblesville sobriety checkpoint Sunday. Lt. Steve Ohlheiser was pulled over after attending a concert at Verizon Wireless Music Center. According to a probable cause affidavit, Ohlheiser failed three field sobriety tests. He faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Fox 59 will have more at 10 p.m.
Air show flies into the Circle City The12th annual Indianapolis Air Show takes off tomorrow at Mount Comfort Airport. Performances are scheduled from some of the country's best aerobatic pilots as well as advanced Air Force and Navy fighter jets and the U.S. Army Golden Knight parachute team. The show runs through Saturday.
Staffing woes plague nursing homes When owners and operators of Indiana's nursing homes and other long-term-care facilities get up in the morning, the foremost thing in their minds is staffing - how to woo quality employees and hang on to them. That's the upshot of an online survey released Monday by the Indiana Health Care Association. Respondents reported staffing as their worst area of performance; just 34 percent said they perform "very well" with staffing. | | | |
