Fishers company loses Marilyn Monroe suit
CMG Worldwide, an intellectual property licensing firm in Fishers, has lost a federal lawsuit relating to the iconic images of the late actress Marilyn Monroe. A judge ruled that heirs of New York photographer Sam Shaw own rights to the photos. It's the second such suit CMG has lost in recent months.   Full Story

Steve & Barry's leaving Indy stores open
Steve & Barry's, the popular clothing retailer purchased out of bankruptcy last month by BH S&B Holdings, will leave open its stores at Lafayette Square and Washington Square malls, the company said. However, Steve & Barry's is closing locations at Kokomo Shopping Center in Kokomo, North Park Mall in Marion and Copper Country Mall in Bloomington as part of a plan to whittle its roster of stores to about 170 from the 276 operating before the bankruptcy.   Full Story

Delphi plans $160M investment at Kokomo
Delphi Electronics & Safety plans to invest $160 million in its Kokomo operations in the next few years, the city announced today. The investment will be channeled toward machinery and equipment, much of which will focus on hybrid and other next-generation automotive technology, said Kokomo development director Debra Cook. "It looks as if they're planning on staying," Cook said.   Full Story

Medical cost manager on acquisition binge
An Indianapolis health care management business has acquired its third company since January and plans to grow to become the largest company in its industry. Financed by a Connecticut private equity firm, Health Systems International this week announced it had bought Bridgeway Medical LLC, a Montgomery, Ala., company that reviews and audits medical bills for other companies. "We're looking for how that company is going to fit," said CEO Russ Sherlock said. "Size is not an issue."   Full Story

Welborn Clinic joins Deaconess in Evansville
Deaconess Health System in Evansville has bought most of the assets of Welborn Clinic, also based in the southern Indiana city, to form one of the largest doctor groups in Indiana, according to the Evansville Courier & Press. The merged group will be called Deaconess Clinic, and will have more than 80 doctors, 500 employees and 14 specialties.   Full Story

Kellogg acquires bakery, to add 300 positions
Michigan-based Kellogg Co. has acquired IndyBake Products LLC, a cracker and cookie bakery headquartered in the western Indiana town of Seelyville, and plans to add 300 full-time and contract jobs over several years to the 80 existing positions. Financial terms were not disclosed. Most existing IndyBake employees will be hired by Kellogg, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said yesterday.   Full Story

Steel Dynamics upgraded by Goldman Sachs
Fort Wayne steel recycler Steel Dynamics was upgraded to "Buy" from "Neutral" by Goldman Sachs Investment Research yesterday even as the Wall Street firm downgraded the overall domestic steel industry. Steel Dynamics shares increased 42 cents this morning to trade at $22.29. The industry faces risks, both real and perceived, that include weak economic data out of developed and emerging markets, the rising value of the dollar and softness in steel and scrap metal prices, Goldman said.   Full Story

Republic Airways to fly for Milwaukee carrier
Republic Airways Holdings will operate a dozen 76-seat Embraer aircraft for Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines, Midwest announced yesterday. Indianapolis-based Republic will operate the planes until Midwest can move the fleet under its own Federal Aviation Administration operating certificate. Midwest will have the option of leasing the Embraer 170 aircraft from Republic. Republic also said it is providing $15 million in financing to Midwest, which is in the midst of restructuring.

Thompson supports 5th year of high school
Democrat Jill Long Thompson wants to offer more students a fifth year in high school - a move she says would improve Indiana's graduation rate. The gubernatorial candidate also wants to expand college scholarships using private donations. And she hopes to create an early-education program that would give children free books.   Full Story

Steel giant sues coal supplier over shortfalls
ArcelorMittal, the Luxembourg steelmaker that operates a mill on Lake Michigan, has sued a coal supplier, claiming the supplier is delivering less coal than their contract stipulates, the Post-Tribune of Merrillville reported. Not only is West Virginia-based Bluestone Coal Corp. shorting the Burns Harbor mill of coal, the suit alleges, but Bluestone is using ArcelorMittal rail cars to haul coal to customers that pay more. ArcelorMittal claims it has had to buy coal from other suppliers to maintain high temperatures in its coke ovens and prevent the ovens from cooling and sustaining damage.

McCain to speak at Republican convention
John McCain is set to accept the GOP presidential nomination tonight during the final day of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. The Arizona senator officially clinched the nomination during a roll call last night. The night also featured a speech from his running mate, Sarah Palin. Palin used the opportunity to attack Democratic nominee Barack Obama's experience and call for more domestic drilling, saying America must "produce more of our own oil and gas." Fox 59 will more at 10 p.m.

Health officials to discuss violations at apartments
The Marion County Health Department is hosting a meeting today for people living at Timber Ridge Apartments, which is at 4005 Meadows Drive, north of 38th Street near Fall Creek Parkway. Health officials say they've found more than 200 health violations in the near-northeast-side units, including the presence of asbestos, collapsed ceilings, rodents and trash. Residents now have 12 days to move out. Today's meeting begins at 4 p.m. in the Marion County Health Department, 3838 N. Rural Street.

Franklin Central teen returns home after stroke
A Franklin Central High School student is set to return home today, months after suffering a stroke during her graduation ceremony. Melissa Hunter, 18, had been recovering at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana since May. She was discharged this morning. Doctors say Hunter has progressed well since they brought her out of a drug-induced coma, but add that she still has a long road to recovery.

Copper stolen from railroad crossing
Lawrence police and CSX Corp. officials are investigating the latest in a series of copper thefts at a railroad crossing in the 6300 block of Sunnyside Drive. The latest incident happened early this morning. Copper theft has been a growing problem at the crossing in recent weeks because it is located in a remote area where the valuable cooper lines run above ground.



Poll: Patients question concierge medicine
Ever heard of concierge medicine? Nearly 60 percent of folks never have, at least according to a new poll of Angie's List customers. And most of those who know about it don't like the idea, says the Indianapolis consumer-rating organization, which surveyed nearly 1,200 of its 650,000 customers across the country. "They don't like it because they think everybody should be treated equally. They don't think people should be able to buy their way into better medicine," said Kasey Bradley, a spokesman for Angie's List.
