PriorityListTitle

"November"
Sept. 11-Oct. 11
Phoenix Theatre
It's anything but politics as usual in David Mamet's latest play, having its beyond-Broadway premiere here. In it, a U.S. President (Chuck Goad) facing a loss in his bid for a second term, deals with - among many other issues - an irate Native American, an association of turkey farmers and the desire of his lesbian speechwriter to marry.

May I whet your appetite with one line: "I hope your second wife gets eaten by a walrus." To find the context for that one, you'll have to see the show. For more details, click here.

Kenny Chesney/Keith Urban

Sept. 13
Lucas Oil Stadium
I'll admit, it's not the country stars I'm particularly interested in here. Instead, it's how effective Lucas Oil Stadium will prove as a concert venue. Also on the bill, besides Chesney and Urban, are LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allan and Luke Bryan. For more details, click here.

"Little Shop of Horrors"
Sept. 12-28
Indianapolis Civic Theatre
With a batch of terrific songs ("Suddenly Seymour," "Somewhere That's Green"), a carnivorous, larger-with-just-about-every-scene plant and a big, big heart, "Little Shop of Horrors" is the off-Broadway hit that launched the career of composer/lyricist team Alan Menken and Howard Ashman ("Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid")

Indianapolis Civic Theatre has a go at it beginning this week, with Phoenix Theatre stalwart Scot Greenwell as nebbish Seymour and Mikayla Anne Reed (Amneris in last year's Civic "Aida") as his lady love. For more details on this bit of horti-culture, click here.

Flashback Features
Sept. 17-Nov. 5
Regal Galaxy and Regal Circle Centre
No matter how large-screened your home theater may be, there's still something special about seeing certain films in an honest-to-goodness movie house. Over the next two months, the Regal chain will offer a chance to revisit some movie favorites in their original habitats, with what it's calling Flashback Features.

The line-up includes "Blazing Saddles" (Sept. 17 at Galaxy), "Pulp Fiction" (Sept. 24 at Circle Centre and Oct. 22 at Galaxy), "Enter the Dragon" (Oct. 1 at Circle Centre) and "Frankenstein" (Oct. 8 and Galaxy and Oct. 15 at Circle Centre). For more details, click here.

Haven Kimmel
Sept. 11
Big Hat Books
The out-of-nowhere bestselling author who burst on the scene with her Indiana memoir "A Girl Named Zippy" has gone on to great success with both fiction and non-fiction. In support of her latest novel, "Iodine," Kimmel will be visiting Broad Ripple's Big Hat Books for a reading and signing. For more details, click here.

This week's contest
A legend of stand-up, Robert Klein is coming to town for a rare comedy club performance. Yes, it's the same Robert Klein behind the groundbreaking comedy albums "Child of the Fifties" and "New Teeth" as well as no less than eight HBO specials. He also starred on Broadway in "They're Playing Our Song," penned the book "The Amorous Busboy of Decatur Avenue" and recently appeared in the film "Reign Over Me."
I would ask if you want to see him live at Morty's Comedy Joint (Oct. 3-4), but of course you do. For a shot at free tickets, enter here.  We'll draw one name at random. For more information on the show, click here.

Just to make things interesting, in the response box, tell us your favorite Robert or Bob. What you tell us won't help you win, but next week we'll offer a link to our favorite responses.

Last week, we offered tickets to see "Solid Gold Soul" at the American Cabaret Theatre. The winner: Andre Denman. At that time, we asked you to tweak the title of a favorite soul song. Some interesting responses are here.

Make sure to visit www.ibj.com/arts for previews, reviews, blogs and video.
