| Consona quietly pushing torrid growth Consona Corp., formerly Made2Manage Systems Inc., might be one of the least-known success stories in the state. The software firm is quietly churning out red-hot growth year after year, finishing 2007 with $130.5 million in revenue. That's more than four times its revenue from 2003, the year Indianapolis-based Made2Manage was acquired by Boston-based Battery Ventures VI LP.
Adesa buys Pennsylvania car auction Carmel-based auto auction company Adesa Inc. said yesterday it has acquired a used-vehicle auction in York, Penn., for an undisclosed price. Pennsylvania Auto Dealers' Exchange, one of the nation's largest and oldest independent auctions, will be renamed Adesa. The 140-acre site north of Washington, D.C., has 11 automated auction lanes and an 8,000-square-foot facility for reconditioning vehicles.

| | Brightpoint profit rises, growth anticipated Fourth-quarter profit increased sharply for Brightpoint Inc. The Plainfield cell phone distributor reported late yesterday that earnings of $14.9 million were up more than 53 percent from a year earlier as it benefited from its acquisition of Denmark-based Dangaard Telecom. CEO Bob Laikin said in a statement that he was pleased with the fourth-quarter results and that he expects the company to grow faster than global demand for handsets.
Kite Realty posts gain in funds from operations Indianapolis-based Kite Realty Group Trust posted fourth-quarter funds from operations of $12.7 million, up from $11.8 million a year ago. As of the end of the year, Kite had an ownership interest in 50 retail properties. Those properties totaled 7.4 million square feet and were 94.8 percent occupied.
Adams Mark acquisition closes San Francisco-based The Charters Lodging Group LLC announced today that it has completed its purchase of the 406-room Indianapolis Adam's Mark Hotel. The group now plans to spend $18 million over the next 18 months to rebrand and renovate the property near Indianapolis International Airport. The company didn't disclose the new brand the hotel would assume. The Charters, then called Oxford Lodging, announced in May that it planned to buy the Indianapolis property and four other Adam's Mark hotels.
Truck trailer makers continue layoffs The slowing economy has prompted two manufacturers of semi-truck trailers to lay off workers. Wabash National Corp. in Lafayette has temporarily laid off 150 of its 3,265 workers after receiving fewer orders over the holidays, according to the Journal & Courier of Lafayette. Great Dane Trailers is laying off 54 workers at its Terre Haute plant after having cut 75 several days ago, according to The Tribune-Star of Terre Haute. About a month ago, the Savannah, Ga., company sent another 130 employees home.
Lawmakers try to balance taxpayers, schools Education leaders repeated their pleas to lawmakers yesterday, telling members of a key House committee that a proposed property tax plan would drain more than $170 million from schools, especially poor urban districts that need the most help. The House Ways and Means Committee is considering a resolution that seeks to amend the state's constitution to cap homeowner tax bills at 1 percent of their home's assessed value, with 2-percent limits on rental property and 3-percent caps on business property.
Blog: Pan Am Plaza exodus USA Diving and U.S. Synchronized Swimming appear set to move from their Pan Am Plaza headquarters. Those two sports governing bodies along with USA Track & Field have filed paperwork indicating they're moving into 16,400 square feet in the Disciples of Christ building at 132 E. Mom to appear in court related to smothering The Indianapolis mother accused of passing out drunk and smothering her 2-year-old son was expected to be in court this morning to hear formal charges against her. Latasha McMorris is preliminarily charged with child neglect after her son died while they were at the EconoLodge, 3525 N. Shadeland Ave., earlier this week. She was arrested and has been held in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 bond. Fox 59 will have the latest at 10 p.m.
Fire breaks out near Butler University Multiple fire departments were called to battle a house fire this morning at Graceland Avenue and Hampton Drive near Butler University. The homeowners escaped safely, but the family's dog was burned and taken to a veterinary hospital. The cause is under investigation. | | | | |
| Swim coach charged with hiding cameras Police say former Kokomo High School swim coach Brian Hindson, 40, placed hidden cameras inside at least two girls' locker rooms to videotape girls undressing. A North Carolina woman discovered the videos on a computer she purchased from Hindson on eBay. Hindson admitted to police that he hid cameras at Westfield and Kokomo high schools. He hasn't been charged in connection with the videos, but he is charged with possessing videos of other young, naked girls.
Man dies in go-cart accident on north side A Chicago man is dead after crashing his go-cart at an indoor track near Keystone Avenue and 96th Street last night. Police say the 23-year-old was in Indianapolis on a business trip. He and a group of co-workers went to Fastimes Indoor Karting, 3455 North Harper Road. Investigators say he was killed when the cart he was driving lost control and hit a barrier wall.
