Value City store in Greenwood to close
The new owner of Value City Department Stores is closing the location at 1230 U.S. 31 North in Greenwood. VCHI Acquisition Co., headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, will shutter the store within eight weeks along with about 30 other stores deemed non-core in its turnaround plan. Hepler said the chain will be returned to its roots of close-outs, or "off-price value-driven retailer."   Full Story

Cook expansion to cost $80M, create 200 jobs
Cook Pharmica said today it will spend $80 million to expand its contract drug manufacturing operation to include formulation, filling and finishing. The project will create 200 jobs, said the company, a division of Bloomington medical device giant Cook Medical. Cook Pharmica currently develops and manufactures cell culture-based products. The expansion is expected to be complete by 2010.   Full Story

Panel to vote today on extended Zyprexa
Federal advisers will vote today on whether a longer-lasting version of Eli Lilly and Co.'s schizophrenia drug Zyprexa should be approved in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration has asked a panel of outside experts to weigh in on the safety and effectiveness of Zyprexa Adhera, an injectable version of the Lilly drug. The government doesn't have to follow the advice of its panels, though it often does.   Full Story

Airline to cut workers at Fort Wayne airport
Utah-based SkyWest Airlines will cut 15 jobs at Fort Wayne International Airport after it lost a ground-handling contract, reports The Journal Gazette, citing a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed with the state. The job cuts, which include customer service and ramp agents, are slated to begin in April.

Huge fire hits NiSource unit in Tennessee
A massive fire at a NiSource Inc.-owned natural gas pumping station in Hartsville, Tenn., last night shot flames hundreds of feet in the air and rattled windows for miles. Highway Patrol authorities said there were fatalities, but it wasn't immediately clear if they were from the fire or from a strong storm that moved through the area. The fire erupted at about 10 p.m. at the Columbia Gulf Natural Gas pumping station near the Macon County community of Green Grove, about 40 miles northeast of Nashville.   Full Story

Indiana limestone forming new Yankee Stadium
Hundreds of panels of southern Indiana limestone have been making their way to New York, where they are forming the new Yankee Stadium's outer facade. Bedford-based Indiana Limestone Fabricators has already shipped more than 600 stone panels, each 5 feet by 3 feet, to the Bronx for the $800 million stadium, set to open for the 2009 season. The stadium's stone is coming just a few hundred yards from that quarried for the Empire State Building in 1931.   Full Story

Oops! E-mail leaks Lilly settlement talks
At least the lawyer got the same last name right. New York Times reporter Alex Berenson was able to break the story last week that Eli Lilly and Co. was secretly negotiating a $1 billion settlement with the government because an outside Lilly lawyer accidentally emailed him the details. The lawyer at Pepper Hamilton in Philadelphia apparently thought she was emailing the documents to Bradford Berenson, another outside attorney involved in the negotiations.   Full Story

Metro police investigate child's death
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy. Officers were called to the EconoLodge, 3525 N. Shadeland Ave., just after midnight after the boyfriend of Latasha McMorris, 24, found her lying on the child. Police say McMorris might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Fox 59 will have the latest at 10 p.m.

Strong storms cause damage across state
The storm system that killed at least 44 people in the South moved through Indiana overnight. Strong winds flattened homes in Greensburg. In Putnam County, strong winds tore the roof off the Bainbridge fire station. Schools were closed in Bloomfield because a live power line came down on a sidewalk where students would be walking.
Kroger to offer $4 generic drugs
Kroger officials announced the grocery store chain will begin selling generic, prescription drugs for just $4. The company will offer more than 300 drugs at that price. The offer applies to 30-day supplies of drugs used to treat asthma, diabetes, heart disease and depression.

Local apartment owner buys Penn Arts building
The Penn Arts Apartments at 16th and Pennsylvania streets has changed hands, 15 months after a New Jersey investment group bought it and said it would convert the 82 units to condos. Instead, JAB Real Estate Investment Group LLC sold the building to Christopher Piazza, owner of Reverie Estates LLC, for $1.4 million. The Penn Arts Apartments is the seventh apartment building Piazza, 23, has acquired since launching his company 17 months ago. Piazza said he expects to spend up to $3 million renovating the Penn Arts building, although exact plans have not been finalized.
